MODIFYING OR DETAILING YOUR I30 => SUSPENSION & STEERING => Topic started by: Roadliner on December 03, 2012, 13:56:43

Hello all,
Could I ask for a bit of help.
We have a current model I30 premium and although its a great car, its 1 major failing is its poor body rigidity.
The car would really benefit from a front shock tower but i just cant find one anywhere on the net.
Could anyone help?

Hi there Roadliner & welcome to The i30 Owners Club!
Interesting... I assume its a 2012 FG version not an FD?
My Premium FD feels very rigid indeed... or are you running it on Track days where slight inadequacies might show up? My model has the independent rear sussies... does yours have the torsion bar set up?

Greetings ,
That sounds like a special modification would be required. there are Korean cars that are rally tuned, but language would be a problem I suspect.

Yes, its the current newly released model and it has the torsion rear suspension, not the indipendant.
Im looking for a front strut brace

Hi Roadliner and Welcome ..
You should be able to get a custom one fabricated by a good metal worker (I would imagine)

Is this what you're after? :undecided:

How hard would it be to make one?
Maybe Steve (2i30s) could answer this better but we used to make our own for our rally cars. Even build adjustment into them with a threaded and lockable section. I used square section box steel and (IIRC) eigth (or maybe quarter) inch plate cut to a template for the top of the struts.

Sounds like you know just what to do, off you go then :P

Yeah I was thinking the same but I think I would use round section aluminium and put hind joints on each end one left hand thread and one right hand thread with lock nuts and mill a flat into the middle of the round section to put a spanner on it to adjust it

I know nothing about this subject but I happened to be topping up my windscreen washer container today and I had a look at the shock mounting points - except that I didn't because they are hidden under a plastic moulding across the full width of the engine bay extending to the base of the windscreen. I guess fitting a strut bar across would be an interesting challenge.

Don't forget to take pictures of before and after :goodjob:

Nah. I'm past all that stuff.
Besides, I still believe the i30 is quite rigid enough even under hard cornering.

@Roadliner, did you resolve the original problem? If so can you explain the solution and outcome.
