Title: Hi from the Blue Mountains!
Post by: 22over7 on October 06, 2018, 05:08:54
G'Day All.
I've just picked up a 2012 i30 1.8 Elite in pretty good condition.

First time owning a Hyundai and first time owning a car from this century.  :D
It's got more fancy features than I'm used to, so it'll probably take me a while working out how to pilot this thing.

I've got a long commute to work each day, so I chose something comfortable and quiet, that won't use too much fuel.
I was keen on a diesel, but was talked out of that.  :undecided:
Time will tell if I've made the right choice I suppose.

Is your work  commute from the mountains to the city? Yeah I don't trust diesel engines either. DPF tend to give issues .

I've recently started a job in Rosehill, about 70 km each way.

Unexpectedly, when I asked my mechanic's opinion about the i30, he agreed they're a great car but he advised me to stick to petrol versions.
His main objection was the high cost of diesel engine parts and repairs.
I've been taking cars to him for the last 30 years, he knows I usually keep cars until they fall apart, so repairs are a certainty, not a possibility.
