Not that exciting here,I'm a professional driver,Semi's,Dazzler as for the cheap car stigma, that is one of the reasons we bought ours, don't earn much driving(but I love it)when I was researching our new cars we short listed it to 5 small diesels,VW Polo,Ford Fiesta,Ford Mondao,Puegeot and the I30, for many reasons the I30 won out mainly because of price and warranty period and Kilometers, but now after 11 months I'm starting to question Hyundai's warranty capabilities and their choice of technitians.

When you mentioned Arcadia, Lester, I thought surely this ship can't still be cruising.
I remember as a kid seeing it in port many, many times. Fremantle Harbour was somewhere I loitered a lot as I always wanted to go into the merchant navy as a navigator, 3rd officer, 2nd officer, etc etc, but it never happened.
But I was thinking of this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Arcadia_%281954%29
BTW, I did 32 years, out at Senior Sergeant level. Miss it every day  Not.

Hi comrade, I was on the new Arcadia, launched in 2005, 86,000 tonne, Vista Class ship.  We called in at Freo as well.

I've been a software developer for the last few years, but currently working a second job for my old boss replacing/enhancing some instrumentation systems (and software).

I thought I missed some aspects of the field work (onshore oil/gas drilling services), but it's a lot tougher with the little one at school nowadays.

Interestingly the i30 has proven popular with IT people? If you scroll through this thread you will see we have a lot of Membes in that industry. :goodjob:

Locksmith.
Family business my father started in 1968.
Two other brothers worked with us for some years but now I am the only son still in the business.
Don't have to be at work at a specific time, and leave when jobs allow.
Take home a work van, so don't need to drive the car or ride my motorcycle to work.
Get to see all kinds of homes, businesses and other facilities.

Locked myself out of the work van once.
Funny when it says Locksmith across the side and I'm locked out.
I now always carry two keys.

While I've got you. I have a query which has had a small amount of discussion on here with no resolution.
I have a "door only" key (which is actually cut from a Toyota blank) which I use when I go surfing. I hide the ignition key in the car and lock the door with the non transponder key which then goes around my neck in the surf.

Anyway, I got to wondering for no real reason (as you do) if the non transponder key would start the car if the real key was held beside it. I don't know a lot about transponders but it seems they work on some sort of proximity thing.

Yes, it may work.
All depends on the system.
Careful though, some cars will start, but cut out after a certain amount of time.

On our last Hyundai, an '04 Elantra GT, I had a spare key, just a regular metal key with no transponder, when I opened the door with it the alarm would go off and it was always a pain to try to turn it off.
At least it would get you in the car if you were locked out, or as in your case if you surfing water wont bother it.

We actually don't work on cars.
We cut some car keys.
And we repair some car locks.
A Toyota dealer near by use to bring us all kinds of locks to reset to an existing key.

I can't cut our current Elantra key as it's one of the new types with the cuts in the center and not on the sides.
Don't have a machine for those.
Can get them, but we've kinda stayed away from car work.

I would say that the programmer in me wants to believe that we're prone to logic and the i30 is a very logical car to have, but then the code I've been fixing says something quite the opposite about my predecessors... so I'd say that IT people probably just spend more time on forums? :)

So intellegent people drive Hyundai.  Sales reps seem to drive Audi, and Mercedes means Taxi in most countries?

I work for a company that makes Broadcast Audio / Visual electronic equipment.  I'm an electro accoustic engineer and work in the repair / test department.  We supply and to Sky, BBC, ITV Channel 4 and many other television and radio stations accross the world.  If they need support they phone me as most companies no longer have there own engineers.

By the way, no need to fit shallow speakers in the i30.  I have now fitted Pioneer TS-E1702is in the front and the slightly less expensive TS-E1702i in the back.  I originaly upgraded to shallow fit speakers after reading other posts on this forum.

Hi

I'm a film/television sound-recordist - in the past, I may have used some of the equipment that you service/sell etc...

But on a more serious note, I'm curious about your upgrade choice of speakers and the whole speaker upgrade procedure. Like you, I'd like to upgrade four of the main speakers in my i30 (the tweeters seem to be OK), but I'm a bit overwhelmed by speaker choice and the actual installation process. Did you do yours yourself, or did you get it done by professional installation people? The speaker spacers in the door also worry me, as they clearly seem necessary, but they also seem to be specially made for the OEM speakers and not too mod-friendly...

So, did you manage to use these spacers, or did you have to make/buy/supply new versions for the upgrade? And on your speaker choice, the power handling capacity on the indicated speakers seems to be on the lowish side - are you happy with your choice of brand/model, or, given the inclination/time/budget, would you choose something different if you did it all over again? Evidently the RMS output on the system in my i30 SR is around 4 x 45w per-channel, so I would've thought a speaker with a 60w-100w power handling capacity would be kinda happy with an amp at the RMS I've mentioned above.

What are your thoughts?

Thats it - interrogation over!!

Thanks for your time!

Rgd's
