I was only 5ft tall when I joined the Mob so it went with my surname. I grew to the average height (5ft 10) but still called Titch. Quite happy with that though. My i30 is the first brand new car I have ever bought. I got it as a company car and saved over £6000 on the new price!!  (tax stuff etc). I have the Style Nav and it is brilliant. I love driving it. My only gripe (and a very small one at that) is that the Sat Nav doesn't use full postcodes. I am hoping there will be an upgrade later this year.

I'm a musician  :whistler:
I play the saxophone. Studied Jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and play in a couple of different bands, plenty of function/wedding work. My next big thing though is to get properly into music producing. Not really the kind of electronic music you might expect from a "producer". But the kind of music producer that squeezes the BEST performance out of musicians in the studio. Jazz, soul and RnB are my big focuses, and have a few projects underway. I have enough gear between me and my business partner to record professional sounding tracks - but as like a lot of things it can be a money pit if you're not careful. Closing the right bit of gear is really important.

I can't WAIT to pick up my new i30 GD Premium in Phantom Black this Thursday (although I'm hoping the dealer calls and says I can pick it up earlier).

Will try to post some pics as soon as I can :-)

You kind of look like a Musician  :goodjob: Very interesting little post ..

Some of the more common occupations on here are IT professionals and Engineers of one sort and another .. a few Senior ex-policemen, photographers and some Pilots..

There are also truckies, welders and quite a few semi-retired and fully retired folk. It all works very well  :happydance:

Lachlan85, do you intend to do anything to the sound system in your new car or leave it as is?

Lachlan85, do you intend to do anything to the sound system in your new car or leave it as is?

We'll see. From the reviews I've been reading the sound system is pretty ordinary. I don't care much for the "doof doof" systems you hear speeding down the streets, but something that gives me an honest and true sound is important. I got some good results in my old Astra just by buying a 3rd party head unit. Clarity improved, volume improved. But in these new cars with very customised interior consoles, I'm not sure how easy that is anymore. If the actual speakers are truly crap then I may look into some options to replace them. But not in any rush to start dismantling my brand new car I haven't even picked up yet!!

Great answer and I tend to agree.
I'd like crystal clear highs and lows that don't hurt the ears but not a system that makes people stare at you at the lights.

If the GD's stereo is anything like the FD's, I reckon it's quite acceptable.... :undecided:

I guess it's more a case of how loud do you like your music and how much bass you're happy with...

Listen to this Baritone Sax, I coded it @ 256 Kbits so use a good sound system.

Us & Them , Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon Album, A classic IMHO.

Sorry, no video, just a timer on screen.

so technically you have been acredited by Hyundai to service them,so you can basically service your own car at a fraction of the price and stamp you own warranty book, cool

I am Cost Engineer at TomTom Automotive, and for hobby I repair cars, but mainly mechanical problems with the engines. Together with my yongest brother we overhaul engines of the Smart fortwo cars.
We did about 10 of them in the last 2 years, they are cheap with a burned valve and easy to get.

Hey all,

I thought this would be a better thread to introduce myself in as opposed to adding to the large collection of threads in the Welcome folder.

I work as a software engineer in Fremantle WA. It is a pretty interesting and varied job. We deal with mostly underwater acoustics and recently I've had the pleasure of listening to lots of Humpback and Blue Whales off the coast here.

I'm a little apprehensive about getting my new i30. I have tended to use my current car (99 corolla with 255k on the ODO) for work quite a bit, including loading it up with lots of wet salty gear. The worst was when we were using salt-water activated batteries which I threw in my car overnight after recovery. I didn't realise at the time that as a by-product they emitted Hydrogen Sulfide AKA Rotten Egg Gas. The next morning the whole garage was gassed out.

It took about 3 months for the smell to diminish. Although my wife swears she can still smell it!

Hi Thommo..

I know how you feel. Our 1st i30 (a 2008 manual CRDi) got a very hard life because we were building a house and moving.. I carted around a 1000 second hand bricks and lots of rolls of fence wire etc.. The hard plastics of the FD scratch quite easily.  :(

Thanks for telling us about your job (sounds very interesting)  :goodjob:
