Hello,

We have a 2012 FD i30cw CRDi purchased new in 2012. The car has a history of the 1500-2000 rpm diesel knock as described here

The ECU was flashed with the "update" at 15,000kms and the issue went away for quite a while. Then it kept coming back and the dealer would just re-input the injector calibration codes and it would be fine a again for a while. They did this a number of times whenever it was in for a service and I mentioned the knock had returned. Each time the codes were entered it fixed the noise for a while. At 107,000kms Hyundai Australia authorised the dealer to replace the injectors with new ones even though the car was out of warranty due to the well documented history.

The car has now done just over 200,000kms and the noise is back. It can be a bit intermittent, sometimes it's barely noticeable and other times it's really loud. We have had the injectors out and inspected/flow tested by a diesel specialist and they are all well within spec/calibration.

This would appear to be an ECU issue. Apparently there is no long-term fuel trim on these Bosch systems (like on a petrol), but they do adjust the pilot injection somewhat (I have been told).

I was wondering about what is required/involved in resetting /re-inputting the injector calibration codes into the ECU. Is this something a good workshop can do, or do I need to take it to a dealer? Are there any tools at a reasonable price for the DIY to do this?

Any advice would be great, otherwise it's off to the dealer, (I don't use them usually, was very happy with the one we used in Melbourne, but not happy with the quality of workmanship since we moved interstate. I hate paying people to do something only to find I could have done a better job myself!)

Cheers.
