I have developed a knocking/clunking noise from the  rear of the car,not all the time, only over bumps and holes.I have cleared the boot, taken out the spare locking wheel nut box and checked the spare and ensured the jack is secure... any ideas?. I have a european built i30. Thanks in advance.

Would it be possible to ask a passenger to sit in the rear while you drive, to confirm it's the nearside rear? Quite often I've noticed small squeaks and I've thought they come from one place when in fact they originated elsewhere in the cabin

If it's actually an offside issue, we'd then be looking at the couplings around the exhaust area

beginning to feel that I am being a right pain in the Rs with my dealer, already dropped it back this week as the front passenger carpet kept coming out from under the centre consul every time someone gets out of the car. Cant do anything with the carpet unfortunately, its cut too short.

weve had 7 or 8 little problems with our 2 i30s and each time we take the cw or the hatch in to have the problem looked at were in and out with the issue fixed.  take it back.

Hey don't worry PJ. It's sure inconvenient I know, but as above you're not on your own and the dealership will sort out any problems.

I've had: new offside rear seatbelt; full replacement alloy inserts; replacement steering coupling (twice); new rear window washer pump (twice) and a couple of niggly things that I fixed myself

I have always had niggles with new cars, so expect it really. When the new promo starts in March (its called many happy returns I think) I will be changing to a new i30 to give it another go. It could be a first build at the new factory. Going for a diesel if the price is right.

I had a diesel for a day when mine went in for some work,it was really good, just hoping that I can get one for not too much outlay as I didnt plan to replace my car so soon (6months).

Just had a bad thought

Was the carpet too short OR was the car slightly too wide and the carpet was the correct size

The seat upright is properly locked in place... ?

Good luck at the dealers. If the sound can be reproduced by them, then they'll suss it out I'm sure. Good luck

PeeJay, if you find out what it is can you please post it or PM me as I have the same problem and I believe 1 or 2 others do to. I live a long way from dealers and can't find a spare day in my diary to drop it off so you'll probably get yours seen to before me.

No probs PUFC GUY, I will be happy to let you know. I have double checked all doors/hatch are shut and nothing is loose in the car. Also have driven over speed bumps and holes with one side only going over each time... the right hand side is silent, the left clunks, no doubt about it.

Another check is that the spare wheel retaining screw is fully tightened, and the wheel is set level in its "well"

Thanks shambles, tried that already, the spare is well attached, I am trying to attach pictures to show the amount of rust on the suspension parts (as well as paint shade differences ) to get some forum opinions, as I believe its a little excessive for a mostly dry driven 6 month old car.I could be wrong.

I've had knocking at the rear and front for about a month now   I didn't manage to take it to my service. It's like you've said..when you go over bumbs, holes and bad roads..

I'm pretty sure we both have problems with so called "stabilizer" - I had that issue on Hyundai Accent twice till 60.000 kms. It's nothing to worry about, they change it under warranty in max 30 min's

I am trying to attach pictures to show the amount of rust on the suspension parts (as well as paint shade differences )

I have noticed on other newish cars that some of the suspension parts seem to rust quite quickly, seems that the paint they are coated with from new, aint designed to last.

What paint shade differences are you referring to, is it the underseal

It's been the same on every car I've ever owned, surface rust is not really anything to be concerned with. While I was sealing my calipers I noted that some milled sections on the suspension are not painted at all. I sealed them, but only because I had a can of enamel paint sat by me at the time.  99.99% of owners wouldn't even notice, and I doubt it will make any difference to the longevity of the part.

Will be interesting to see the pics.
