That's brilliant manovar

Did you do the stitching yourself? That's quite some talent.

Oh, and welcome to the owners club :D

it's easy to take it out.
there are screws on both sides of the wheel after you remove them you can pull out the airbag and the horn part gently.  There are connectors for the audio and the airbag system. it's easy to disconnect them. After that there is one last screw in the middle once you take it out you pull the wheel and it comes of totally. After that there are 4x2=8 screws holding the black and the gray parts.
i said it is easy but it is all your responsibility be careful working with the airbag...

I am looking myself to change to a leather steering wheel, but not knowing anyone here who could hand stitch one it will have to be from Hyundai @£130 approx. As a side note, the last time I changed a steering wheel, and I am sorry if I am teaching everyone to suck eggs, I had to disconnect the battery and wait ten minutes or so to allow the air bag to discharge, although this may not be the case for the i30.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and then wait for 30 seconds.
2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels can face straight ahead.
3. Loosen the torx bolts which are located on the both side of the steering wheel.

4. Disconnect the connector (A) from the airbag module and then remove the airbag module (B) from the steering wheel.

5. Disconnect the remote switch connector (A) and remove the steering wheel lock nut (B) and washer.

6. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column shaft by using a SST (09561-11001).

Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove it; it may damage the steering column & EPS unit.

from hyundai service manual...

Seems good value for money to me, considering the time and effort involved.

To far for me to travel though :'(

disconnect the battery is the safest way.i removed what i thought was the airbag fuse on a car two years ago [but was the wrong fuse] and when i removed the airbag it went off,it broke my nose and my left wrist and sent a screwdriver flying past my face only missing by inches.disconnecting the battery is the best way.

We did not get cruise in the early diesels over here either.. :'(
I sometimes miss it but even in sparcely populated Tasmania have found in other cars with cruise you are always overriding it due to other traffic..
