I want to take the centre console out so I can fit an aftermarket radio

There is a thread somewhere on here that has the service book for your i30 which walks you through the steps necessary to access the head unit, if i find it I will post the link for you.

The screws are hidden underneath the silver trim that starts at the air vents and follows along the side of the centre unit from what I have read elsewhere. I believe there is a bunch of clips that hold the trims on and you need to be careful not to break them. From there you should be able to get it out. Sorry cant find any links..... good luck :)
