Title: i30CW GD HEADLIGHT AND PARKING LIGHT CHANGE
Post by: gooster on May 01, 2016, 00:15:27
This is my first post glad to be on board. I have a i30cw Gd and the front l/h parking light has blown, i was thinking about changing this globe myself but when i looked closer i noticed that this might not be any easy task. Has any body else come across this issue? I suspect it maybe a major job an i may as well change all the globes while i am at it. May even be a job for the service agent.

Welcome Gooster, it's fairly easy to change bulbs as I did mine yesterday, a  little fiddly though.

The parkers just pull straight out ( don't pull them by the wire ), they'll be very tight the first time to remove, I replaced mine with Narva T10 6000k LEDs.

The low beams twist anticlockwise to unlock and I replaced those with Philips H7 55w White Vision bulbs 4300k.

The high beams have the spring release clip and use the same bulbs as low beam.

I just posted a thread asking this same question, and then found this. Thanks! :)

Yes booster it's an easy job as craigB mentioned and i replaced mine with all white led interior and exterior and low beam with HID's and some people says you have to remove the head unit to remove the bulb and no you don't need to remove the head unit but patience is the key 👍

I might aswell chip in with a related question.

Do you get warning in your dashboard when low beam bulbs burn out?

I just drove 300km in daylight to a concert, when leaving I thought the road looked much darker than it should. Pulled over to find both my low beams had blown, but no warning in the dash to allude that so was the case, seeing as the lows are the second most important lights(second maybe to brake lights) on the car, it ought to have a warning eh?

No great harm done, I always carry a spare package of H7 in the trunk, and yes, they are just as easy to replace roadside in pitch darkness(typical I was driving home during the 3 hours of darkness we have this time of year), so anyone with fingers ought to be able to pull it off in daylight. :)

It might be more common in Europe, but I've had roughly 30 cars in 40 years and can't recall any that alerted me to a blown globe (except indicators) which seem to misbehave if a globe is blown...   Probably should have been two sentences...  :crazy1:

In the days of the electromechanical blinker circuit (multivibrator), the absence of load presented to the circuit by a blown bulb would cause the oscillation to stop, or when only partially absent as in one of two bulbs - front and rear - change its frequency, usually going faster. With modern electronics it is entirely up to the individual application and rarely is the bulb's resistance any longer a factor in circuit operation. Some safety systems employ independent sensors to detect the lack of light at the source of emission. :goodjob:

My 1987 Jaguar XJ6 commenced its startup sequence by testing all the bulbs on the car and showing a graphical representation of their state.
