Title: Malfunction Indicator Light (Blocked EGR valve)
Post by: bot on July 12, 2011, 04:10:40
The malfunction indicator light went on my crdi, then i went to the dealer to check what is the problem, they say that the EGR is somewhat blocked.. my car (1.6 crdi manual) had only traveled less than 24K Km..

has anybody experienced a problem on their EGR valve. and how long did it take to fix it??

is this normal on our crdi engine??

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is there to cycle some of the hot exhaust gas back into the air inlet to assist the complete combustion of fuel and reduce emissions. It has a hard and hot life and occasional problems can occur on any make of engine because they are proprietary units made by just a few manufacturers. It is an easy problem to fix - a replacement valve costing $350 to $500. However - in our case - it should be covered by warranty.
