I've a question for Android Auto users:

I have an iPhone 6 and a Google Pixel. If I use Apple Car Play, the resolution is perfect 1:1, no scaling happening.
With Android Auto (which I generally prefer), there is some slight up scaling going on, things are not quite as sharp as they could be.

Has anyone had a go at fixing this? I've tried enabling 720p and 1080p output in Android Auto developer settings, but on this HU at least, it doesn't seem to make any difference. It's most noticeable on place and road names in Waze.

Sorry I haven't tried waze yet although I have it on my phone. Haven't noticed any other resolution issues though.

Just out of interest how does waze differ from google maps, and what are the benefits? We have another member @The Gonz who reckons it is better?

Dazz, Waze uses crowd sourced data to update their traffic data and street changes quicker,  Personally I've found them glitchy in the past and their maps don't work when out of signal range which is no different to Google Maps/Apple Maps.

And for some reason in Waze avoid tolls is called Dazz mode   

They are also more up to date with accidents and mobile speed cameras etc.

Nowadays there's not such a huge difference, as the data crowd sourced in Waze is included in Google maps. Not all of it is, but traffic data is.

If you want to contribute to the crowd sourced data while driving, you need to use Waze, and there are a few things that don't make it across to Google maps, like reports of Police on the roadside.

There is also gamification in Waze, so as you contribute you get points and can gain "levels". Waze is very much the Millennial's satnav.

I gave Waze another spin the other day. On Apple, at least, it needs to be activated before you can use it with Carplay. Also alerted me to an accident which evidently had already been cleared. OTOH, would have been great last week when a major intersection was blocked by an accident, on the way to a funeral!

I'll just stay with my stick, car satnav or tomtom and avoid being f'ed around by " helpful" tech.

My question is just fussiness on my part. Ultimately if it isn't just plug in and go, i won't use it. Thankfully, it mostly is

I find google maps on Android Auto pretty handy for quick verbal navigation selection although she did take us bush on a very narrow sandy track the other day! 

Tend to only use the SR's built in GPS when avoiding tolls.
