Today took my I30 2009 1.4 petrol for a service which included change of oil.  Upon picking car up at i asked the mechanic what oil was used as when i checked the invoice I saw a price of 12 Euro's for oil ( I laughed) , i have provided oil for services before.  He told me he used 15w-40 Selenia oil vision2000.  He said due to high temp's in summer in Malta it is the best grade.  I told him he should have used 5w-40 if that was the case.  As they are the agents for selenia oils  they use what is available at the time and the cheapest.

I checked the specs for selenia vision200 on the net :
API SJ/CF (introduced in 1996)
ACEA A2/B3 (obselete) :blubber:

when hyundai specify  API SL or SM
                                     ACEA A3 or above.

Now I have  3 options
Buy a better quality oil and change it immediately
or complain and get them maybe and thats a big maybe to change it
or leave for 6months till the service where I provide the better oil.

Question : If i leave it for 6months will it damage the engine in any way.
Thanks in advance for any replies from sunny Malta.

They probably purchased the Selena oil from Aldi in Valletta.

Yes, get them to put the good oil in.

There's only 1 way to get the correct oil and that's to put it in yourself, however, reimbursement for the oil & filter should be forthcoming and a complaint to Hy about their disregard and compromise of your warranty.

To protect yourself, you should create a letter stating all the facts of the service date, copies of invoices and a signed acknowledgement from the dealer, that the letter is a true and correct statement of fact, just in case there is an engine warranty requirement in the future.

Very poor performance by this dealer. :fum:
