  • Our i30 With no one else around
Greetings to all.

I have just collected our beloved i30 CRDi after its 2 year service.
When I got back to my home I decided to check under the bonnet to see all was in order.
I was surprised and somewhat alarmed to discover a "plug" at the front of the engine
un-plugged!
I have reconnected this, but have no idea what is for (please see enclosed photo)
I do hope our engine is ok as I drove 30 miles back from our service centre in heavy traffic.

I would be very grateful if any one can reassure me, and I wonder if I should go back to our service
centre to point this out to them.

Kindest regards to you all

Rogmur :P

Hi Roger.. That is such a small picture  I can't quite make out what that is (would it start without that connected?) Someone will know what it is I guess..

I know you are in the UK but which country? Any chance of selecting a flag in your profile?  :winker:

Hello Dazzler

Thank you for your reply.
Sorry the Photo is so small, but I tried to upload a larger picture but kept receiving
an error message saying file size must not exceed 50KB.
Our i30 started ok and I drove back around 30 miles.
The "plug" is located at the front of the engine just above what looks like a "Distributor", (but I know Diesels do not have Distributors).

I shall try and upload a larger photo.

Kindest regards
Rogmur

Hi RPM. As Dazz says it's hard to see as it is (we don't have unlimited filestore in the forum to we have to set a low limit on attachments)

I shall try and upload a larger photo.
Kick yourself over to http://imgur.com and click the "Computer" button, to select the pic from your system; when that's done a "Start Upload" button will appear; clicking that will reveal a set of codes on the right hand side - just select the one marked "BBCode (message boards & forums)" and copy the URL it gives you to your next post on here :D

Hi Shambles

Thank you for the imgur link, (you're a genius I shall use this in future too).

I have copied the link;

Hope I've done it correctly.

It's the grey "plug" thing on the right hand side of the photo, as mentioned the Hyundai Technician
had left it un-plugged.

Let me know if the link is incorrect.

Many thanks

Rogmur

Yep that's better :D

Looks like a sensor coupling, at first sight, tho for what I cannot make out. Those silver metal retaining 'pins' are usually used on fastenings that must not be allowed to shake loose, so I'd say it was an important part of the engine circuitry.

Don't have my diesel anymore but I think there is a sensor for the exhaust/air intake in that area

Hi Shambles and Eye30

Thanks for your replies.

I do hope my engine will be ok as I was stuck in slow moving (M25) traffic after collecting the
car. I only noticed the disconnected plug after I reached home, and checked under the bonnet
per chance.
I am annoyed at Hyundai Service Centre (who shall remain nameless at the moment) for not checking this, before returning our car and taking our money.

 Kindest regards

Rogmur

As the car started and you indicate that you didn't feel any issues whilst driving I think that the plug is a sensor/monitor related item.

Next time you are passing the dealership I would pop in and ask what it is and explain it was disconected.

Where does the tube, to the right, which looks as if it connects to the unit you plugged into go to?
Is it a connection for the Fan/air con unit?

It isn't connected - it just brushes by it - I magnified picture to check it

Is it the flux capacitor?
no, that highlighted thing is a camshaft position sensor

Just for your own reference if your referring to the black half circle with the nut on top this is the housing for your oil filter.

Hello everyone,

Thank you all for your help.
I have contacted our Hyundai Service Centre, and will see them tomorrow (Friday).

I will ask for an explanation how their "Technical Staff" could make such an error.

Surely, Hyundai Owners deserve better.

Kindest regards

Rogmur

I wonder whether they will be looking on here for an answer

Without seeing a photo it was obvious to me. There is a flap on the engine intake to close off its air supply when switching off. Not a particularly critical device until the turbo fails. Disconnected to give better access for the oil oil filter.
...At least it shows the filter has been changed.

Hello to all i30 members

Had our i30 checked over by Hyundai service centre (where it was serviced).
The mechanic tested the sensor with a lap top to ensure no "error code" would be triggered.

Many thanks to Ace Demon as you were spot on in your analysis, it was a for the intake valve,
(I had'nt a clue what it was for).

In future I shall check our car over thoroghly before leaving the service centre.

Thanks again to you all for your help/advice.

Kindest regards :Agoodjob:

Did he also offer an apology for your wasted fuel revisiting them?
