Hi everyone hope you're all well.

I've been thinking about installing a nav/smart radio to my i30 mainly because I just want a bigger screen. It currently has the small standard radio system installed. I'll add a picture later today when I finish work.

I suppose I'm just wanting to know:

1) Is it worth it?
2) Would I be able to install it myself with little/no previous experience
3) If so could anyone recommend any models/brands? I'm in the UK.

Many thanks in advance!

Welcome.

So you are considering a complete upgrade of the inbuilt infotainment system to one with a larger screen and Navigation?

If you do that make sure you get one that has lifetime free updates if possible. Personally I would also try and get one that uses the Garmin style of navigation and instructions. The one used in most Hyundais is far more user friendly and less clunky than the Tom Tom based one Toyota has in my Camry.

Better still get a head unit with Android Auto/ Apple car play and use Google Maps or Waze for your navigation. Then you won't need to pay for map updates either way and you get all the other benefits of smartphone mirroring.  :victory:

Hi mate, thank you.

Yes that's correct. However I've been told previously that it's not really worth it because it's not as easy as it was say 15 year ago so this has always put me off. I wouldn't be confident in buying one that was compatible and that would fit in my dash.

Kind regards

Perhaps you have a company like this near you. This one is in Birmingham

I searched google for aftermarket sat-nav installers

Can't thank you enough for this! I've emailed them for a quote and I'm currently googling to see if there's any alternatives a bit closer to home. However it's worth mentioning for anyone who's interested they offer a mobile service where they come to you.

Thanks AlanHo  :victory:

Its all part of the service you get here on this great forum. I hope it works for you  :goodjob:   and that you are sitting down when you read the quote

Dazz also gave you excellent advice about checking on the cost of map updates and perhaps getting a unit that you can sync to your smartphone and use waze as a sat nav.

I don't do it myself - because the KIA satnav is very user friendly and map updates cost only £25 per year.
