Title: First day start engine knock problem
Post by: Keany on June 14, 2016, 13:01:06
Dear members,

I bought i30 combi 1.6 Crdi 81kW 2013.

Tachometer 31 000 Kilometers.

Problem: When is car in garage or outdoor (cold or hot about 15°C or 25°C its a same), there is a special sound of engine on start. Car must minimal 8 hours stay on place. (Engine cold). I recorded a videos with this problem. In authorized Hyundai Service said all is OK (in diagnostic). But this problem starts 1 month ago, 1 month after filters change and oil. Engine knocks after start about 3x-4x and then is OK.

Do you have any idea what happens with engine? Maybe diesel injector?

Doesn't sound too bad to me. I wonder what oil they put in. Maybe you could swap the oil out with a higher spec?

The noise you are referring are those split moments when the engine slightly shakes and almost seems to die right? Apart from that it sounds good.

Sometimes my 2010 has done that on startup, I would recommend switching diesel brands (maybe try premium diesel for a few tanks?) and also working the engine a bit, like don't put it in 6th gear at 120kph on the motorway but leave it a few minutes in 4th to bring revs up, also, on normal driving let the revs go up a little bit before upshifting.

At ca 6/7 and 12/13 seconds it sounds like it's missing a beat. You can see the engine move a bit when it happens.

I don't think it anything to worry about but you could send this video to your Hyundai dealer just to ensure your complaint is registered.
