Indeed. Has anyone noticed this with their cars? the coolant smell of course, not coffee.

When an engine is switched off after driving, there is no longer any airflow over the motor or radiator. Coolant actually gets hotter by absorbing existing engine heat, but with no airflow, the expanded coolant flows directly to the expansion container. This vents directly to air and you are possibly smelling the contained air which was inside the tank as it escapes and would have the smell of coolant IMO.
