hi,

Have just taken i30 diesel in for its 30000/1year service at the local hyundai service centre. Since then the engine has started cutting out while driving. When the car goes round a "s" bend the esp kicks in and the engine cuts off. Took it back to the service centre who informed me 'its an intermitant problem and they cant fix it unless it happens in the workshop'.

Anyway, my question is has anyone had similar problems and how(if at all) did they get it fixed?

Thanks.

:welcome: Sorry to hear about your problem.

It sounds like this has happened only since the service. I'd be asking just what was done that could affect your engine. It is totally unacceptable to say the fault has to occur in their workshop. If the fault is permanent and not just random, I'd be taking them for a drive to demonstrate the fault. It is a potentially dangerous fault.  :disapp:

This is one thing I don't like about modern cars. Too much software creeping into too many areas of the car. It's possible to bring in a good car and after "updating" the software, inherit a series of problems."  :fum:

If that's not a typo what country has 30k service intervals?

No idea about the problem but as Phil said, I'd push a little firmer. :sweating:

Service recommended every 15,000 klms here in Oz at least.
And, intermittent fault or not, it only happened after the service. I'd be insisting to speak to someone further up the ladder. Surely the fault codes would give them a hint.

... the service centre who informed me 'its an intermitant problem and they cant fix it unless it happens in the workshop'.

Ask them to build an "s" bend in their workshop then. Bloody crazy response from Hyundai. Dreadful, even :disapp:

You don't say where you are so I'm going to guess at earth the Aintipodes? Do you have an ESP OFF switch on your model? Probably not. Check your tyre pressures before you go back to your dealership.

Oh, and welcome to the club, albeit under a gloomy cloud  :Pout:

Welcome m1234

I will also make an educated guess that you are on the East Coast of Australia  :winker:

I wonder if the paperwork mentions if they changed your Fuel Filter at the 30,000 service? It sounds like a possible Fuel system issue in my opinion. Hope they sort it soon.  :goodjob:

The problem would appear to be directly associated with the service as you say it only appeared after the service.

So I'd be taking it back and be asking for it to be corrected immediately.

ps welcome

I think most European countries have 30k/1y service intervals. I know it's like that here. For all U2 CRDi engines. It's quite a lot, but okay.. I hope Hyundai knows what they are doing, regarding the fact they have 5y warranty.

As for the problem... Don't know, haven't heard about it yet. Dazz could have some point.

Thanks for the replies,

When I took it in they did take it for a test drive but were unable to reproduce the fault.
And was told no error codes were logged.
Fuel and air filters were changed during the last service.
Am on the mid north coast of NSW.
Have been driving the car with the esp off after the engine cutouts.
Spent the day talking to icare. Said they have sent the problem to head office and should be contacted in 48hrs.

thanks

Some of the owners here in my place encountered similar situation. It is regarded to be the issue of fuel filter itself and/or the installation procedure of fuel filter. One of the owners already faced this problem for 14 times.  :sweating:

My diesel wagon has suddenly developed the same problem (34000km & 13months old), the first two times were under acceleration, but yesterday it was on cruise control at 100 km/h and it just died!  It will not start again until the car is completely stopped and on restart, would not go over 3000rpm even in first gear and had no power.  This morning it is going fine, but the dealer cannot find anything wrong.

Do you have factory or aftermarket Cruise?

This problem has been associated with an aftermarket Cruise Control issue and a fuel filter assembly issue.

Vehicle is bog standard with factory fitted cruise control.
I have also already had the radio replaced (Bluetooth stopped working) and a the rear engine oil seal replaced (major leak), but Heartland Hyundai (Blacktown - Australia) were really helpful about this.

The problem is rapidly getting worse and seems to be twofold.
1) The engine suddenly dying
2) Something causes it to loose power (the turbo seems to be dead) - power feels normal up to 1700Rpm but nothing after that.
At startup in the morning everything is OK.
After dying or loss of power, stopping the car for about a minute will bring everything back to normal, but the hotter it is, the sooner the problem comes back.  Yesterday it started to miss on the M7 at 100 km/h but the fault cleared itself after about 30 secs, but it did that a couple of times in the next hour (and completely died twice).
I am find it nerve racking to drive now

Hi
No - Not the GD
It is an I30 SX 1.6 CRDi wagon (6 speed manual) 2012 model.
I was sitting in the Campbelltown Hyundai dealer while they tried to find the problem, and the guy in the waiting room had exactly the same problem with exactly the same car!

That really does sum up the experience - hope they rectify the fault(s), & explain them - otherwise you will quickly lose your confidence in the vehicle.
They really are an excellent car. :(
