Hi!

Yesterday I had the left wing mirror of my i30 stolen. After spending a lot buying a new one, I noticed that other issues appeared.

The interior lights don't work, neither the mirror folding system (the right wing mirror is folded, but the left one is not, and nothing happens when I press the folding button), the alarm stopped working too. The car panel indicates that the boot door is open. The sunroof opens, but doesn't complete the tilt up movement.

I've tested other parts, looking for indicators of a blown up fuse, but without results. The glove box lights are working, and the car starts up.

Any ideas of how can I fix it?

(Sorry for the bad english)

Hi Kavaz,
Sorry to hear. When the mirror was stolen how did they steal it? Was the door opened and it was unbolted or was it ripped off? If it was ripped off there may be damaged wires in the door.
I really can't think if why it would all be happening just because of the mirror, unless the mirror is the wrong part.

Have a look in the fuse box next to the driver's side door for any blown fuses.  If you find any, you will need to investigate what caused them to blow. As cruiserfied suggested, there may be damaged wiring in the door and replacing the fuse will just blow again, until the faulty wiring is repaired. Also, check the part you bought and make sure that's not blowing the fuse.

The only thing i can suggest is to disconnect the wiring plug at the mirror  and see if you still have the problems. Seems strange that you have all these failures, i would of thought they would be all on different circuits unless something as shorted

My first reaction is also that the problem is either insulation stripped on the wiring inside the door, causing a short cicuit, a broken wire causing a lack of grounding (hence distributed problems) or incompatible mirror (if happening when connected). :goodjob:

Thanks for the support, everybody!

It was ripped off, but it seems that only the wires inside the mirror were damaged. I didn't open the door to check the wires there yet, will do.

The interior light fuse isn't blown up, will check the others too.

I'll report as soon as I check these. Any other suggestions, post and I'll try!

Thank you all!

If you have a multimeter or test lamp, you could check the interior light to see if there is power there (assuming you know how to do this).

Good tip from Phil. If the dome light is off but you have 12V on both sides, you have an open circuit to earth.

Even without a multimeter, touching a length of wire (connected to any earth point on the car body) to the low side of the globe will tell you there's a disconnected earth if it lights up.

Conversely, touching the high side with a wire connected to a known good 12V source (such as the positive terminal of the battery) could light it, telling you there's a disconnect in the 12V supply, all without a multimeter. :victory:

Good advice from The Gonz, but beware, if you're not experienced in this area, shorting +12V directly to earth will blow your lighting fuse.

I've finally discovered that the problems were really blowed up fuses! I changed some of them, and the problems with the lights and folding mirrors were solved!

The only issue I didn't managed to solve was the sunroof tilt up. Until I realised that the sunroof track was a little broken!

Thank you all for the help! I'm really happy that this community is so helpful and solidary!

Problems solved, closed topic!

It's often the simple things that get overlooked. Good work.
