  • Our i30 With no one else around
Hello to all i30 Owners.

Whilst perusing the Hyundai website, I noticed that "Shine Red" is no longer available on new i30's.
I wonder what the reason is?
What worries me is that (heaven forbid) any body work which may need doing to any Shine Red i30's
may not get an exact colour match.
Well I do hope that will not be the case.
But what puzzles me is why Hyundai UK would discontinue Shine Red?

Just thought I would let you all know.

Kind regards

Rogmur :-[

Hi Rogmur ...

The fact that Hyundai have discontinued the shine Red in your country won't have any effect on getting a good colour match if you have a ding.. The formula to match your colour will be available for many years. There may be issues matching your colour in a few years time as red is the worst colour for fading (but that will not be Hyundai's fault and is less of an issue in the UK than it is over here in OZ) :winker:

Any car-paint store is capable of reproducing the original colour, using the factory colour code.

I mentioned in another thread that I recently bumped my wifes i10 with my i30 and had to have scratches and dents repaired on both cars.

I used a mobile service who did a great job at low cost - but the guy was not able to rely on the paint code - for either car (both silver - but different shades) - to get a perfect match. To be honest - I couldn't see much difference but he could. He then produced a hand held scanner from his van which he placed on a flat section of the body to get a colour reading. He then plugged it into his laptop and used some software which told him how to mix a perfect match for another top coat.  He did this on both cars.

I rather imagine that these scanners are common in the trade and more reliable - especially on an older car - than relying on the paint code.

That is very interesting Alan..  :goodjob:

I have taken part of a couple of previous cars in to a local paint place and had them perfectly match the colour and put it in an aerosol can (I now presume they used a similar scanner)  :D

A friend from Ford Australia said they are having problems getting an alternative suppler, the RED pigment for their paint comes from a factory in the "nuclear" effected area of Japan. this may be Hyundai's problem as well. Cheers Neil

Hi to all

Sorry about my delay in getting back to you all.

Many thanks for your comments regarding "Shine Red".
I feel much more reassured.
I did wonder about the problem of "oxidisation" of Red paint as I did own a red Toyota Celica several years ago, (but I was 2nd or 3rd owner). And eventually the paint work did become dull.
But, I suspect the prevous owners did not look after the Celica as they should have done.
However, I wash our beloved i30 once a week with quality Car Shampoo (Zymol) and only ever use microfibre cloths for drying.
By the way the new Hyundai "Glow Red" (Metallic) looks very nice indeed, not sure if it is UK only though.

Well thanks to you all once again, I'm off to go and wash the i30.

Kindest regards

Rogmur :D
