About 3 years ago we bought an 18 month old Corolla for my wife. There were more than the usual number of scratches in the paintwork along the sides but we took those into account when negotiating the price. It was mechanically excellent and very low mileage.
I hoped some of them would polish out but they didn't.
A few months later I saw in Aldi a "Car Paint Scratch Remover" kit for around $20. Thought I'd give it a go but of course, never got around to it and the kit sat on a shelf in the garage until a couple of days ago.

Scratches are almost all GONE!  :goodjob: :goodjob2:

VERY happy wife.  :victory:

So this morning I tackled a scratch about a foot long, low down on the front guard and driver's door of my i30 which I'm guessing came from a piece of wire or something poking out from somewhere. It's been there a year or so and gives me the "its" every time I wash the car.

It's GONE!

Previously I had tried various scratch and swirl removers and even used a cutting compound (carefully) all to no avail.

This is the sort of product Aldi will run once a year, generally in association with other car care type products so keep an eye out for it if you have any annoying scratches.

They aren't a regular line. Normally only on offer once a year. If I see them advertised I'll grab you one. Might be the sort of thing they do in spring.

A good method is to use ultimate compound followed by polishing compound.

Thought I'd bump this thread as the Aldi product is on sale this coming Saturday.
Aldi Car Paint Scratch Remover.
It's advertised for $14.99.
I'm going to buy two. It seems to have a long shelf life as the one I've got is about three years old and I tried a small bit a couple of weeks ago. Still works fine but that was the last of it.

Are they gloss? I've got a couple of similar products from auto shops and the one of them I've opened is a satin finish so not very effective at hiding scratches. When you put it on wet the scratch disappears, but you end up with a dull line when it dries.  :undecided:

Not sure what you mean by gloss, Dazz.
If you're referring to the finish after the job is done, it's as shiny as if you'd used a high quality car polish. There are two tubes, one for scratch removal and the other to finish off. There's also a rubbing block and small piece of very fine wet and dry, neither of which I use.
IIRC, the instructions tell you to rub the spot, across the scratch for a couple of minutes. If you do that, the result is pretty good. Being lazy, I tend not to rub that long but you have to really get the car in the right light to see where the damage was.
Obviously no good if the scratch is through to the undercoat but even then, in a lot of cases, it helps disguise it.

Yeah, that is what I meant. The one of used isn't shiny, so it makes the scratch more obvious if anything. I recently bought another so must try that (different brand) :undecided:

That seems a bargain although saying that, I haven't missed the HUD as much as I expected to.

I've got the Auto Link Dongle plugged into my OBD port too?

The only problem is Dazz they say a lot of the cheap ones and even more expensive ones can give double vision so it may be a bit of a hit and miss purchase.

I don't have any real desire for HUD but if you want to try one, ALDI s returns policy is second to none.

Got to admit I feel the same ( not really bothered ) but I thought some on the forum might be interested, will get some of the scratch remover though. :goodjob2:

$hit, that would be no good. Sorry sir but we've just had reports you were doing double the speed limit! That will be a $300 fine!
