The Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo wants to ban diesel cars and the pollution they bring from the streets of the French capital. But not long ago, diesel engines were thought to be environmentally friendly. What could have gone wrong?

As much as I like Diesel, it makes sense to clean up our planet, as long as the solution is Hydrogen and no particular nationality holds an unfair monopoly as is the case at present.

Looks like we're going the same way over here too. As soon as one nation decides to ban diesels the other's will follow suit in Europe who can't meet the required air pollution levels

What they should do first is have a scrappage scheme  for early models of Diesels and phase them off the roads first or have a higher taxation on new vehicles when first registered or even stop selling them all together. But the first thing I can see coming is higher road tax for Diesels  more pennies for the Treasury pot

Er, if Diesel is outlawed, and more petrol is consumed to move the current volume of goods (people / produce), how will there be any improvement in pollution levels ?

How long are the Brits going to be pushed around by a bunch of sprouts ?  :spitty:

So if diesel cars are more expensive due to the DPF, and My car doesn't have one, why is it more expensive.

To start with, a completely different engine compared to the petrol model, made from real steel.

The difference between petrol and diesel cars is that petrol cars emit carbon dioxide and monoxide - which suffocates you gently - whereas diesel emits loads of nitrous oxides which are carcogenic and poison you to death.

Tek yer pick........... :snigger:

My vote is to suffocate everyone - it's kinder.

Someone will come up with a brained scheme, like the French did years ago like banning cars with odd numbers on their registration plate on certain days in Paris, and the same with people that had even numbers on thier plates,so what did the motorists do, go out and buy a second car so they had one car with even plates and the other with odd plates so they could drive into Paris everyday

The problem with the French (amoung other things) is that they were giving massive subsidies on diesel cars because they thought they were cleaner.

Then they get a couple of warm summers, not much wind and because Paris is in a dip all the particulates and gases just hung over the city.
Basically, they shot themselves in the foot. Gotta just love politicians, so clueless but they have the power to create massive f#%k-ups.

you can run diesel's on LPG that is less polluting than unlead also LPG does not finance terror groups.
LPG is also halp the price of unleaded E10.
