I've just noticed that my new i30 isn't running Kumho or Hankook tyres - it's got Nexen tyres on it.
I wonder why the change, given that they are a competitor of the others?
Anyone know what they are like?

You have been more help than you know.
It is true that your knowledge is only exceeded by your good looks after all.
To add to the detail, they also have a nice pretty flower on the sidewall.  :D

That flower would be a rubber tree flower, Dave. It is there to remind you that your tyres are made of rubber.

(I forgot to include that important piece of information in my original reply)

Some other quality new car I was looking at recently (Mazda maybe?) had Nexens on as OEM I was quite surprised as they used to be a cheapie  :undecided:

From  a quick Google it appears they come as original equipment on some Kia and AUDI models

I believe so.. Hence the flower (don't think rubber trees have flowers - although no doubt I will be corrected if they do ... in which case I will say "well they don't here in Tassie")  :whistler:

Google says...............

Rubber trees are members of the enormous fig family, which has approximately 800 species. In their native habitat they have flowers that rely on a specific wasp to pollinate them. The flowers are impossible to see because they are encased in a unique structure called a synconium, which looks much like a small fig.

Really? What is your understanding of the term google? :undecided:

And I can't tell you as yet if the tyres are branded "Eco" tyre because the car is outside, I have just got up and I am sitting here totally naked as I check the forum prior to having breakkie.  :D

Now there's a picture painted in your mind that you'll have difficulty getting rid of.

At your age, everyone under 50 would be "underage"

Although, I thought the same thing.

I have the hankook tyres on mine and Im sure thats the cause of most of the road noise I get because I use to have a Mazda 2 / demio (yeh the boxy thing) and that use to have michelins on and continentals and it was still quieter then the car i have now.

gonna have to put michelins on when the time comes to change them

The Hankooks are definitely noisy.
But then, I've never found a Michelin that was quiet either.
Contis seem to be the best of the lot.

The Michelin Primacy LC on my Hybrid seem super quiet (but it might be just good soundproofing)
