Sorry, I wasn't sure where I could ask this.

We have had our new Santa Fe diesel auto for a few months now.

It's been great!

Of course there is a but. The car now has 7,000km on the clock and ever since new occasionally when the car is in either 5th or 6spd it will have suddenly jerk/ jolt, like something slipped for a second.

There has been 2 occasions where maybe about a 1 km after starting in the morning id be sitting at 60-65km and it was a constant jerk also felt like it was surging. As soon as I gave it more acceleration it stopped and the car was fine.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar to this in an automatic car?

This is my first automatic transmission so I have no idea.

Think we should ask Tim for an opinion @cruiserfied

Doesn't sound right to me. I've only owned 2 Autos and 2 CVT's in over 30 cars, but had a handful of Company autos and can't recall any of them doing that.  :undecided:

It doesn't sound like a transmission problem, auto or manual. I'd be directing my attention at the engine management including sensors.

Thanks for the reply Dazz and Gonz!

I didn't think to look into the engine management side.

It's going in for its 7,500 service next week. I'll let them know about it and see if there is a fault code.

Im hoping there might be. The Santa Fe says it does a system check when you first put the key in to start. It used to make a sound saying all ok, but now it doesn't. Wonder if it's smart enough to pick up the issue.

Not saying all ok is saying not all ok. Good move pointing it out at the service. :goodjob:

Since its something you have noticed from new i expect it will be normal operation of the vehicle.
Santa-fe drivetrain is usually extremely reliable.
Is it possible your feeling the gearbox shift down a gear? They do like to find the right gear to optimise economy without sacrificing too much performance.

It's a strange one because the rpm isn't changing when it happens and it is usually a few seconds after a gear change.

The gear box is great otherwise, always chooses the right gear for the job
