Hi all,

Done my first 1000km in the crdi SL stocko, now its time to play :D
I've left my rally/karting days behind me now so I'm planning to tune mine into a fast family car, BMW 135i is a good example. From a few quick fangs I see so much potential in the i30 so here's my plan for stages of tuning. Any input on parts recommendation are most welcome!

First is to address the body roll.
1. 17in rims, decent tires ( michelin pilots ? ), upgraded brake pads and lines
2. firmer sways
3. dampers and just maybe a firmer set of springs esp to the rear.

Second, traction.
1. LSD ( quaifes are a bit pricey outside of racing )
2. ECU ( is the ESP tunable ? )

THIRD, more torque
1. ECU
2. Turbo spool
3. Intercooler.

This is just a very general broad plan so any input is most welcome.
Have a great day

Very big topic Marty do some searches (as far as the ECU goes a tuning box seems to be the best option .. plenty to choose from and lots of info on here to read)

Many lowered cars talked about on here and recent topic on thicker sway bars... also plenty of talk about upgraded wheels and tyres (we have a tyre guru - Surferdude)

Cheers,

Dazz

I'm sure the i30 has an LSD already in it. my car spins both wheels in the wet.

Thanks for your advice!
I've always held the theorems of Colin Chapman as gospel, so for me power is my last consideration.
a dream come true would be a used set of BBS 17s, Brembos that fit, and sways. Then if there was some way to lighten the roof.... CF roof brace and PVC sheet!

But on a street car, the brittleness of CF and the low grind-resistance of PVC (or even plexiglass) makes that a horrible suggestion.

Can anyone confirm if the i30 already has an LSD?

I'll be doing your same list, bar the turbo and intercooler. The intercooler is already rated at well above what its doing (i'll however be adding water sprays), and the turbo being VVT is just an expensive bit to replace before i NEED to.

I doubt it would be LSD more likely just the traction control/esp...

I'm probably missing the obvious, but why go to the added expense of installing an LSD when the ESP/TC can do basically the same thing?

They don't have a limited slip diff, as Razy was talking about getting one fitted.  but i've never checked

the esp/tc will only apply brakes to a spinning wheel- wont apply torque to the other front wheel like the hydratak system in the earlier hsv's (once spin was initiated) or like a standard lsd which applies torque to both at the same time.  to tell if the car is fitted with lsd, just jack the drive end up and spin one wheel side- if its harder to turn and the other wheel spins same direction also then its lsd generally. open wheel diff will either not spin opposite wheel or the opposite wheel will spin opposite direction and its easy to turn the wheel as i understand it.
