Hi borb12,

It could be the engine "under load".  Try changing gears at a higher RPM as to not labour the engine.

I'd get it checked out.

PS, is your "car profile" correct?  (i30 1.4 petrol)

Thanks all for all you comments I have changed profile now, I think I might be putting it under load as not had  a diesel before. I love the i30 but having little problems like corroded alloy's, rust at bottom of drivers door,  ( waiting for hyundai to get back to me )new crankshaft seal and new rear antiroll bar link.

Gee, you are very unlucky to have had that many problems. QC on the i30 is usually pretty good!

What year is your car..

Mine is 2008 and will do nothing below 1500 rpm's in 5th gear, but all other gears are ok below 1500.

1500-1900 rpm's is where you have most cruising speeds, so there should be no vibration there. Mine have now covered 204.000 km and there's no vibrations in that range... :happydance:

My Diesel similarly has some vibrations accelerating under load at around 1800 rpm. Below this, under load I'd call it more like lugging or chugging. I just know that if I'm going to accelerate under load best for the car to be around 2000 rpm. If just cruising the car is ok down to about 1500 rpm.

Remember with long stroke motors, the eccentricity of each crank on the crankshaft is further from the central axis and although counterbalanced will be noticeable at low revs under load, also the strain on the engine to compress the air in the cylinders will also contribute to vibration. Diesel's do have limitations at low revs, just like any other engine. Try a lower gear and see if that fixes it.

Anywhere from 2 to 3k revs is the sweetest spot for this Diesel motor. No point in revving past 3k really, as the engine produces it's best torque in this range. The turbo becomes effective at about 1900 rpm.

See if my post from last year might give some insights.  I had vibration around those rpm.
