I recently had the opportunity to observe the effects when used therapeutically in palliative care. In the early stages it does appear to work better than a lot of the available drugs, particularly for pain relief. It's seems quite misunderstood by legislators unfortunately and I hope that changes in future. After all opiates are a controlled substance, why not therapeutic cannabis derivatives?

Here's hoping that our legislators take a closer look at this as a means of providing relief to the terminally ill in future.

Here, here.

The best my father (2013, prostate cancer) and mother (2004, subarachnoid haemorrhage) got was morphine, which didn't exactly seem to palliate in the slightest.

Agree, sat and watched my sister in law & niece in palliative care suffer, they were on morphine. Very upsetting. :(

Looked after my healthy Mother, I had a Prostate Biopsy, lead to 2 months in Intensive care. The Authorities took her into care....then to hospital, when I finally got there, she had a Morphine injector on her.
They were using the Liverpool Care Pathway (to death), deliberately killing her. They admitted there was "nothing wrong with her" just confused as to my whereabouts (they failed to inform her of my hospitalisation). I asked they remove the Morphine, but they then said she would now be an addict.
I sat and watch her die (over several weeks) she never spoke again.
The hospital were paid for any LCP administered.
LCP (by Morphine, starved & dehydrated to death) was being used for cash purposes, not for the original policy.

I am totally opposed to cannabis use, even in small amounts.
I have seen what it can lead to.
But in medical situations such as these, I agree that it should be available and administered, providing very strict controls are put in place to do so.
Registered users, supplied by pharmacists, prescribed by doctors, all properly documented and audited.
But yes, if it helps control pain in those extreme cases, then why not use it?
My ten cents' worth.

Exactly so. Currently mention the word cannabis or marijuana in the context of medical use and those who legislate have a fit. In a recent interview with a young fellow taking treatment for a terminal cancer a state health minister offered her opposition on the grounds it may cause throat cancer. Reminding her he was actually dying of cancer, he said he was prepared to take the risk to access the benefits. Herein is the problem I think - our legislators and those who influence them seem short of facts on the topic.

It's medicinal derivatives need to be controlled substances for sure, same as morphine for example. I am hoping it happens sooner rather than later.

Regarding other uses of cannabis, I am with Dave on that one.
