The German discount grocer said it would open another 40 stores on the east coast, to add to a 40-store expansion into Western and South Australia. The company has about 400 outlets nationwide.

No mention of Tasmania.

Thanks Trevor, Interesting. Sort of glad in a way if they don't come to Tassie... Some of the locally owned IGAs would probably go bust!  :Pout:

Relax, Dazz. This is only about what's happening in Australia, not overseas. :whistler:

Probably not Dazz.
IGA is going strong up here. The only one with a problem is where a new Coles opened up around Coolum.
The Aldis and IGAs seem to co-exist.

I wish an Aldi would open up in Tassie.  We always used them on "the mainland" when we lived there.  As Trev stated, they seem to operate quite well with competition from IGA.

We don't as yet have Aldi in W.A. but it looks like it's coming.
I was told by someone the other day (but I don't know if it's true) that Coles have bought out some IGA stores.
I hope it's not true.
