BTW: how did prices compare with Australia? Eg. Spanish (Eroski) diesel is 1.67 Australian (79p) per litre.

Fuel prices were not outrageous. I paid E1.30 for diesel. The aud is about .64 to the euro, so about aud $2/l. The car I had is supposed to do 70mpg but whatever the case it didn't use a lot of fuel.
