I've been curious to see how well the average MPH  and fuel consumption read out behave during cold weather.  Today's temp was showing as 0C, it was dry and traffic light.

So this morning as I had to take my lad and girlfriend to the airport, which is a 90 mile round trip, all but 2 miles is motorway, I thought I'd see what it shows on a 45 mile return trip, constant speed and non stop trip.

On the return trip once I got onto the motorway I set all the readouts to zero.

I did a constant 55 mph and the average showed 55 mph.
Increased speed to 60 mph and the readout showed 58 mph after a short while.
Decided I'd keep to just below 60 (probably 58 mph) and by the time I'd got home the readout gave 57 mph.

On the fuel consumption readout for the journey it altered between 72.9 and 73.5 mile to the gallon.
(During the last week the readout was showing 46.9 for around town driving)

That sounds sort of OK to me, your using a diesel CRDI I guess...  preety good, when you go and collect them (I am guessing they've gone on the jollydays) you should do a fill to the brim thing, then a refill when the journeys done and do a comparative study..       :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

You have got me even more concerned about my car. On a dead flat motorway, no wind, with 2 up and cruising at 60 mph - the instantaneous fuel consumption shown on my computer has never bettered 63 mpg. A regular long return journey to Exeter and back home on motorways all the way has never averaged better than about 54 mpg - and that was cruising at about 62 mph with a light foot trying hard for economy and not speed.

One of us has got an exceptional car.

I was in no rush to get home so I just took it easy along the M56 and M53.

No harsh acceleration or braking
