Never really noticed before but today, temp outside a barmy 15c, the engine ticked over as follows:

First start from laying overnight, say 14 hours, 1250 rpm.

Once at operating  temp, 6 mile trip, 700 rpm.

In both instances the engine was quiet and very smooth. In fact I thought it had been turned off but no nice smooth 700 rpm.

I'm sure before the service on Monday the revs at warm were around 800.

Anyone care to enlighten me with technical details for rpm  at cold and operating temp.

Who knows, with computer control over idling speed, air temp / pressure & engine temp are all used to determine a satisfactory idle, could be different for each owner.

Do you drive that distance to work every day Rick or do you stay down in Perth sometimes?

Nice commute, Rick.  Mine is 75km each way, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love where I live and I like my job.  My commute is only an hour as well.

As for the idle speeds, I haven't really noticed.  I do notice that it is higher when the engine is cold, though.

I only looked at the tacho as I thought the engine had stalled/off as there was no/hardly any engine noise.

yes mines 124k each way, same love were we live, mind you would be nice if they had a couple of country runs,so I could possibly bring the truck home instead of using my cars all the time.

eye30 normally cold mine runs around 1000-1100 but once warm ony runs 700-800

I'm ok with the 1250 when cold.

I was expecting little bit higher when warm, say 750-800.

Anyway as the engine is governed by the black box syndrome I take it this will alter the rpm's depending on such factors as temp, load and the nut holding the steering wheel.......

15 degrees is balmy??? beautiful morning up my way!!

With winter kicking in, last week we had constant 2-3 degree mornings when i was getting up at 3am for work, similar to rick its normally a routine of bag in car, coffe in hand, but i always waited for the FD to get to atleast 32 degrees before driving up.

On start up it sat around the 1100-1200 mark and slowly droped down to about 800. Then after a good drive to work it would idle around 700.

After being ran into from behind and then hit from the side, still idled at 700
