I've just bought an i30 tourer (Blackline) 1.6 CRDI
Very nice car. I like its style. The seats, suspension, trunk and the engine (280nM@1500-3000) are awesome.
Tyers type : 205/55R16 Continental
Before, I had Golf 7 trendline (6 months) and new Audi A3 sportback attraction (6 months) - all company cars. Hyundai is my private.
Where is hyundai among these cars? Well, difficult question.
My first impressions (on scale 0-5):
Gearbox: Audi 4.5, Hyundai 4.5 Golf 4
Engine dynamics: Audi 4.5, Hyundai 4.5 Golf 4.0
Seats: Audi 4, Hyundai 4.5, Golf 3.5
Navi: Audi 5, Hyundai 4.5, Golf 3.5
Lights: Audi 3.5, Hyundai 5.0, Golf 3.5
Suspension: Audi 4.5, Hyundai 4.5, Golf 4.5
Handling: Audi 5, Hyundai 4, Golf 4.5
Refinement: Audi 5, Hyundai 3.5, Golf 5
Sound quality: Audi 5, Hyundai 4, Golf 4
Overall the car is very solid, the only thing that annoys me is the tyre noise. Koreans cannot quite match Germans in this field.
In the city the hyundai is very quiet and calm, however above 120km/h I have to speak louder and there is this hum. Cabin resonates a bit and this is okay if you haven't driven Audi or Golf before. I30 is on the level of Astra, Megane, Ceed, Mazda 3.... I also did a test drive with the new Octavia and it was even noisier.
On the contrary you get folding mirrors, rain sensor, auto dimming rear mirror, projector lights, auto headlights, navi, reverse camera and a really huge trunk. Options that would double your clean diesel Golf price at VW ;-)
There are no perfect cars... and the choice is very difficult. In december I'll go to Poland (~ 3000km) on the motorway. Will let you know it was...
