Hello,
After I bought my Hyundai, I went to the authorized Hyundai service center where I live.
The car had 82K Km on the clock, automatic tranny.
The service personnel in the service center told me that Hyundai has changed the gearbox oil changing instructions, and now the gearbox oil doesn't need replacement at all in all the service life of the car.

When checking the gearbox oil dipstick, the oil is at the maximum level. However, the oil is black and doesn't smell well-like burnt oil.
Should I change the oil? Does a special equipment should be used to replace all the oil from the system (including the torque converter) or should the oil be drained from the drain plug (and let some old oil remain in the torque converter)?
Is it safe to replace the oil in such mileage? What is the recommended oil to the tranny? (the owners manual doesn't state what oil should be used).

Thanks,
Matan.

Definitely change your oil A.S.A.P. at least according to the required intervals. At the same time, change your dealership service centre. They don't know what they are talking about. The torque converter oil should be flushed out so you have a completely clean system. Suggest you go to an auto trans specialist, they should advise you correctly.

Thank you for the reply.
The first oil change in the service manual is when the car reaches 100K Km (So I have approx. 20K Km left but I won't think the oil will last), afterwards every 60K Km.
Is there a recommended oil for the tranny?

GENUINE DIAMOND ATF SP-III or SK ATF SP -III for the FD model, both petrol & Diesel engines.

From memory in Australia anyway it was due to be changed at 90k.

Hyundai told me they just drained and replaced it. I got mine flushed by an automatic expert.

For auto oil to be black/smell burnt, the trany needs the sort of attention an oil change won't fix.
I would not be changing or flushing the trany, save that money for the repair bill, unless she's still under warranty.

Well, the oil is loaded with friction material. But after that distance, you'd expect that. Clean oil and filters should rectify any problems. Clutch plates, etc, will require maintenance at the required interval.

Remember matanfr, that auto trans oil wears out, so it's less capable of dealing with "shear" which is the difference of speed between the oil itself as it travels throughout the transmission. Get it replaced ASAP.

Updating the thread.
Last week I took the car to a non-Hyundai mechanic, and performed a complete wash and replacement of the gearbox oil, using a total of 10 liters of genuine Hyundai transmission oil SP3 (as recommended here).
Just to clarify-not many mechanics have the machine that does this. The majority just open the drain plug and let the oil come out-but the oil in the torque converter isn't replaced.

That is correct and the auto trans specialist I have used before (other cars, not Hyundai), says the same thing.
Most places do not like to see expensive new auto trans fluid going down the drain, but if it is to be done properly, then that is the only way to do it - flush with new trans fluid before replacing.
