Hi folks, I've read through a couple of posts covering the door lock actuator being broken (eg
i30 rear door will not unlock )
I have a similar problem on my i30cw diesel wagon 2011. I've gotten a replacement actuator mechanism from a wreckers, but because the door is stuck, I can't get anyone to replace it. It's on the front left door (passenger side).
The door snib does twitch when locking and unlocking electronically. I cannot manually fully open the snib. Pulling on the handle, there is tension (I can see the cable moving too) but it doesn't unlock the door too as it normally would since it's the front door.
Here's what I've tried so far:
1) Doing the assisted unlock/lock over 300 times at various times of day/week (just in case it takes a break on the weekends)
2) Removed the handle cover and used pliers to pull at the locking cable
3) Wound down the window and peeked at the very cool mechanisms inside
4) Watched a panelbeater do the same thing
5) Brought it to a Hyundai service centre but they ran out of time (presumably they were doing the same thing for 1.5 hrs) and decided to return my car and rebook it. At one point, I was told that the door was removed, but following that they said the door had locked on and they couldn't get it off, so I don't know which it actually is.
Currently, I'm being told that it's going to be 2-3 hours of work and -maybe- they will be able to get it open. Of course once the door is off, it's 30 minutes for them to replace it. I'm wondering if there are some magical tips to be able to open/remove/controlled damage this door without the $150/hr hyundai mechanics experimenting on the door (I'm based in Perth). If there's a magical spot to cut in the trim, I'm sure I could source a replacement from the wreckers.
Thanks for your help!
