Ah, the old SU.
Reminds me of the old Jags.  :D
Great Carb dave just have to know how to Tune them as they don't adjust to elivation, the CV carbs the Japs make are better as they do ajust to elivation, Kenin have made a CV 51mm for Harley Davidson it would be great in place of the larger SU but would not match the classic style.

Hey Dave, :) everyone can look.
They have got the motor from that old FX on a stand at the museum, it's hard to beleave the amount of work the must have had to do making the mold of the head with twin over head cams & the six carbs, says they went from Amil MC carbs to SU's but the motor they have on the stand has six Amil carb's that have had SU float bowls adapted to them, probably to hold more fuel.
I got asked to navigate once for a guy who was developing a Fiat 128 with 4 Amil carbs. Despite (or perhaps because of) help from the Fiat dealer, the car never ran properly and it never got to an event. For three months I told them to stop messing around and fit a couple of Webers - to no avail - so I moved on.
Yes the Webbers would be a much better choice, i have a friend thats very good at tunning webbers, he has his own Engine Dyno & just builds & tunes what the customer asks. one guy in apendix J got him to develop & old red holden motor for an XU1 it makes over 300HP thats a lot from the 202

Pretty easy to tune them. Just change jets. No minute adjustments required. My old father in law was a wizard with them too. He was race mechanic for the late Glynn Scott and would tune by ear. Later you could go put the car on a dyno but never need to change anything.

Wow Dazz you must be known by Mr Shiploads i saw that Chickenfeed when i was in Tassie last time. the owner must be American? they dream up catchy names like that. i expect his next business venture will be the Last Resort, tourist rresort  LOL
I used to love going to Sal Markets in Hobart, do you ever go?

Haven't been for a while. More for the tourists, so not many bargains any more. We forgot about it when in Hobart the other day. By the time we saw it, was too late (they were packing up) :-P

well might have changed since last i was there, But was unequal, hard to describ why i felt that way, but like Eumundi Markets but different i liked Both & i was fortunate enough to go to Paddys Market in it's Hey Day. Sydney has nothing to match that these day but they try, just all the same we have Markets all over Sydney are they all flog the same thing so very borring. Sal Markets & Eumundi Markets where different when i saw them last, could have changed.
Eumundi Markets are good, John. But the Yandina Markets are even better IMHO, if somewhat more "countryfide". I think Eumundi has become a victim of its own success and is a bit too commercial these days.
I've only been to the Salamanca Markets once but it was a great experience. Hope to get there again sometime in the next few months.

Also, I was a bit of a fan of the Parklea Markets when we lived in Sydney.

Thanks for that Trev, i'll have to look when i'm up that way next.
Parlea is big have not been for a few years but like to go if have a few people want to too.

Thats good, yes if you know its easy, but some people who don't know, can make them run bad. i saw a few 2L OHC ford Escorts having trouble & a well known tunner in Sydney could not fix. then my friends 18 year old son solved the problem. the fuel pump was pumping at too higher pressure & blowing the float needle & flooding, he got an ajustable fuel pressure fitting & got them runing great, Very smart boy. he once made a two stroke whipper snipper motor into a 4 stroke, made his own head fitted a belt drive pully to the crank, made a series of sharfts that went through the head he made put another belt dive pully to the sharft in head to link to crank sharft & machined two holes in the sharft in head one hole was intake had a carb on it, the other hole was exhast & had exhast pipe mounted to it. the boy did this all himself @ age 10years old for a school project, he won. latter went to england & worked for race car teams .

Don't think the cams on there own would make that much difference, a lot took the capacity from 265 cubic inch to 300 cubic inch( 5.000ccor five family size soft drinks ) that makes a good gain with the right headwork they were fast for there day. Doug Chivas was the guy who got them famiouse at Bathurst they went from a 3 speed on the floor to a four speed on the floor. Leo & Pete also went great in the sprint races in them. but they were Marickville Mercedies no real Aussie would drive one, they were for Ethnic's.

We have a similar invitation for a Coles outlet opening this Sunday at a new housing estate. I try to avoid the big two but this one is giving stuff away and it's right on our work-home route.

OK, we went to the invitation only opening of Shiploads. Got there at 2.15PM (doors opened at 2.30pm) had to park 50 metres away near the bottom of the car park. Already over 100 in the que and by the time we got in several 100 behind us.

The 1500 square metre store was soon chockers and so were a lot of people's trolleys. It took us 30 minutes to get through the checkouts and there were 7 being operated efficiently by 2 staff each.

When we came out at around 3.45PM there was still probably 100 people queued up to go in...

I know one of the Managers quite well and he said they expect tomorrow to be quite a bit busier

Some photos...

the car park when we arrived from our place in the que...

The queue when we were leaving...

From our car when we were leaving (Ray's Outdoor are the next to open apparently)

I only spent $24 something including a new leather handbag for Trish. Trish spent about $16 I think. We spotted a few other things we liked but when we saw the length of the checkout queue we decided to wait until things settle down in a few weeks.  :undecided:
