I'm on another Hy site - HOCGB - and an i30 owner queried the MPG readout.

They have been told by their dealer the figures shown on all i30 fuel computers are US gallons and have to multiplied by 1.2 to calculate imperial (UK) MPG.

They cannot be changed to show UK MPG.

(ps The car is 1.4 comfort, so petrol, with just over 10k on the clock. It is a 61 plate registered in Sept 11)

Does any UK member know whether this is correct or not?

Ooooooooh - I wish.

It would mean that on a recent motorway journey I was cruising at 62 mph and getting economy of 82 mpg (3.4 l/100 km).

When something seems too good to be true - it usually is a bummer.

However - we buy fuel in litres - not gallons - and I measure my mpg for each tank manually by dividing the miles done since the last fill by the amount of fuel added in gallons (which I convert from the litres added). The result tends to be similar to the average trip display which knocks the argument on its head.

Remember - they don't sell the i30 in the USA - over there it's an Elantra with quite a few differences to ours. The display is digital and it cannot be all that difficult to tweak the software for each Country.

If I was the guy who posted the info I would have serious concerns about the competence of his dealership.

But you can't imagine how much I hope that I am wrong.....................

A classic example of droppings of the cow's husband, coming from the dealer. How could anyone be so stupid as to make a statement like that. It can easily be verified from the source at HY.

That info can not be correct. Alan had his demo ride b4 purchasing his car and with all the sales managers and "experts" available on the day, not 1 person mentioned that the mpg measuring standard was NOT the standard used in UK. Alan also reports that so far, the readouts closely approximate his figuring of actual. If it were not true, then his DTE figure would surely leave him with many excess miles past the zero point.

I agree.
It does seem strange to calibrate a european build car for the euro market in US gallons.

Unless the unit is manufactured for the US motor market and for some reason those bought/used by HY have not been altered for their euro production line.

Or could this be that THEY were not aware of this but are now.

But for the dealership to state that all i30s have this setting, is just plain incorrect.

Interesting they replied to you given you are in NZ unless they didn't know this.

So why did they inform a UK dealer that they were calibrated in US gallons?

OK Lester let me try to analyze (?SP American ) what went on here.  Doris was sat at her desk doing her finger nails and generally tarting herself up as she has a hot date that night.  She accidental nudged the spacebar key on the computer on her desk and the damned thing sprang into life.  She thought, 'Uh maybe I should check the email in case tonight's hot date has sent me a sexy message' and lo and behold there's a bloody punter mitherin about something to do with fuel, whatever that is?      She leans back of her seat, revealing just a little underwear to a passing male and shouts through the read door which leads to the workshop " Oi, Simon, I've got an email her from some dope askin about how much petrol his car uses, or something".
Simon, who is a bit narked at leaving his bacon balm, which he was enjoying whilst gazing pointlessly at another dopes car, stops what he's doing and comes through to have a look.

Simon leans over Doris taking full advantage of the higher position he is in to have  a good look at the view down Doris's cleavage bring up the advertising bumph and does a very crafty copy and paste of the first thing he sees which appears to fit the bill.  He goes back his bacon balm, she to her nails and voila, job sorted

Definitely in SA chaps, and no they wouldn't respond to me via email, until I put THEIR post code which was nicely supplied, then it went though (no Daves), this is shortened common slang for "David Murrays" which rhymes with "worries', which I could have just typed with a lot less effort.". Anyhow, tricked 'em into an overseas response.

@asa Absolutely 100% correct, you're obviously well familiar with this MO.

I wonder if they have any vacancies there     ;)

Had to do that when I was signing up for "free" wifi while in England. Think it was at a "Little Chef" roadhouse. Only postcode I had access to was the address of Little Chef HO somewhere in London.
Worked. :goodjob2: :happydance:

Ok the owner on the HOCGB site has had a reply from HY UK.

They have confirmed that the mpg indicator is in fact in UK gallons (imperial measurement). The conversion that he was told to apply by the dealer relates to a measurement that converts litres into gallons.

So we have had it not once but twice that they are not US gallons.

Is this a result.
