The owner of this Mercedes has racked up more than £14,000 in parking tickets after leaving it in the same spot for three years.

The saloon has been sitting in the Broadway Plaza sheltered parking area in Birmingham city centre.

Car park owner APCOA discovered the vehicle unlocked and found the logbook inside which gave the name of a driver from Coventry.

But all attempts to get in touch with that person have failed and it was also found that the back axle is damaged, meaning the Merc could not just be driven away without repair work.

Police are still looking for the person who the car belongs to, but if no one is found it will have to be towed.

There are no records of the Mercedes ever being stolen.

Can't they find out who it is licensed to by checking the VIN?

Bit stupid of the car park owners to let it go on so long, over here from memory, after of a month of getting the owner to remove it(or even if they don't find them) a Hiab scrappies truck is sent out,a chain is smash through the windows and it is hauled off

Can I also add my own abandoned Merc?

This one is standing at Rhodes University in the previous town before I moved to Port Elizabeth beginning of the year. I took the picture on the 7th of June in 2012, and I went past there when I was in town two weeks ago and it is still standing there

What is it with MB cars and abandonment?

Because stupid people buy them as status symbols and can't afford to repair them when they inevitably break.

Impossible to use a lorry mounted crane in that car park and even a slide bed may not have sufficient overhead clearance.  BTW we have sophisticated recovery cranes which do not require a chain through the window!

There is probably more to it than has been printed.  That car park company are renowned for pursuing outstanding debts albeit in this case it appears that the owner cannot be traced.  Nonetheless there is no reason why it cannot be removed using skates to get it to a place that a suitable recovery vehicle can operate.
