Looks sensational Hemmi ...
I feel really guilty now :-[
My car is just so dirty (inside and out) at the moment.. I will try and get a picture of my block today so I can justify it...
No wonder you use the Meguiars logo as your Avatar (By the way what country are they originally from - U.S.A. ?)
-
thanks guys :D
Yes it's from USA, founded in 1901.

If you're allowed to use it for personal car then why not :D
-
Hemmi, what steps did you go through to get her looking like that? Which Meguiar products and in which order?
If you've got time :)
Thx
-
OK, here's how I did it:
I start off by rinsing the car with high pressure water to get the most loose dirt and dust off.
If its winter I sometimes use a tar remover with soap but now I just used soap.
NXT Generation® Car Wash
I used the "Two-Bucket Method" to clean the car.
One bucket with soapy water the other with clean water to clean the wash mitten regularly.
I start from top and then move to the bottom, I leave the dirtiest parts to last (wheels, bodykit, exhaust, etc)
Next I clean the rims with Hot Rims® All Wheel® Cleaner and use 2 brushes.
The Meguiars spoke brush is brill for cleaning rims.
To clean the engine bay & car bonnet I started off by sealing off the engine bay with big plastic bag, sprayed some tar remover inside the bonnet and brushed, then rinsed with high pressure water, then I remove the plastic bag and start on the engine bay, I dont use water, just small wet towel and small brush, to get the shine I want I use the HOT SHINE™ TIRE SPRAY on plastic, works great and looks as new.
Next I dry the car with Chamois and Microfibre towels.
To get rid of water inside the mirrors and places hard to dry I use air pressure to blow the last bits of water out.
Then I clean the glass with NXT Generation® Glass Cleaner.
Then I spray the tires with HOT SHINE™ TIRE SPRAY.
I use Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner for leather.
I never use any special product for the dashboard, I just use a wet or dry microfibre towel.
Then just vacuum glean the carpets and floor mats (except winter when I use rubber mats)
Also clean the insides of doors.
And now when the car is clean and dry I start polishing.
First I mask the car with special tape over plastics and stuff that I dont want to polish.
I used NXT Generation® Tech Wax® 2.0 and Dual Action Polisher to do the job.
Then I just wipe the wax of when dry with a microfibre towel.
To top it off I then use Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer™
(http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/imagesEdp/p84734b.jpg)
And now the car is sparkling! :D
Hope I'm not forgetting anything.
It really makes you feel good taking a good care of your car :)
-
Thanks Hemmi. I think this should be stickied for a while :) with a modified title
Great work and good write-up :D
-
I just sent a message and link to Meguiar's USA website suggesting that Hemmi has earned some free product.. will be interesting to see if they respond...

:eek:that is sweet! and how come you have so much free time at work!
It was Saturday and no work
Although I sometimes clean the car when I'm bored on Night-shift
-
OK, here's how I did it:
SNIP
It really makes you feel good taking a good care of your car :)
WOW. Came up looking awesome.
I just did my first wash today. I've had it through the laser car wash before but it needed more this time.
Came up looking good but nothing like how your one came up Hemmi.
The wash cloth / mitten makes a huge difference. I bought one this morning after having always just used a sponge on previous cars.
The wheels needed two washes but I think I could get away with one if I buy one of those brushes you have.
I got a huge amount of pissed off looks as I washed the car as we are on water restrictions. Since I got no council rebate for my water tank I purposely don't display my signs  and I used a lot of water just hosing the i30 down whilst I checked for spots I'd missed
-

So you didn't get all the rain my Brother in Tweed Heads got...Water restrictions in June (you live in the wrong State!)
-
gosh hemmi, you're a walking advertisement :P
car looks magnificent!
-
If I someday win the lottery I'll buy Zymol Royal Wax
It's really expensive!!!!
http://www.gomiata.com/zyrogl.html
Until then Meguiars will have to do
-
Just gorgeous!
-
Meguiars replied to my email about some free product for Hemmi within a few hours saying they'd get back to me within 48 hours... But they never did :-( (disappointing but not unexpected...)
-
I think Hemmi deserves a bit better than that, doesn't he?
I just sent the following to Meguiar's in Australia for their information also.
"Hi, I am a member of the Hyundai i30 owner's club at www.i30ownersclub.com and I just wanted to bring to your attention this guy, Hemmi, who lives in Iceland and is ALWAYS talking about how great Meguiars products are.
He uses nothing else and I thought you might be interested in this thread.
Please take the time to read it through.
The last comment is a bit disappointing as far as the response is concerned. I know it has nothing to do with you guys in Australia (as I said, Hemmi lives in Reykjavik, Iceland) but he certainly looks after his i30!
Regards,
Dave"
-
Good one Dave..
If we keep peppering away you never know..
-
Thanks guys :D
-
Got an almost instant response from Meguiars in Australia as per below.
Hemmi, not sure how you want to do this, maybe you can contact them direct with your address if you prefer, or pm me and I'll forward it on, whichever way you want to do it.
Congrats to Meguiars though for that, they were very quick & very positive.
Hi Dave,
Just checked out Hemmi’s post and was blown away! Not only with his detailed step by step and broad range of comments, but also on how good his i30 looks!
Not sure what our friends in the USA are doing, but even though we don’t cover Iceland, we’ll make an exception and send this guy some goodies. Go Hemmi!
If you can supply me his delivery address we’ll definitely get something organised.
Also, for anyone interested, we have Meguiar’s MotorEx coming up this weekend at Homebush, Sydney. It’s going to be a really great show this year and we have a very large presence. Also some very special deals on Meguiar’s products, with a minimum of 20% off, up to 50% off, plus bonus give aways. Check out www.motorex.com.au
Cheers
Andrew

Hemmi, great job mate! do you keep under the car as clean & shiny as the top?
i had a work mate that used to clean under his car as well as the top and you could lay under the car and it was shinny better than brand new looking. or is that why its low?
There is a car wash cafe near me that uses the big M products. i use Armourall find it compareable to the big M also like series 2000 products on the tyres.

Looks great Hemmi, I use Meguiars too in Oz and use all the same products you do except for the Ultimate Quik Detailer. Does the Ultimate Quik Detailer make much of a difference to the final finish?
Also luv that dual exhaust setup, looks really cool. From the pictures looks like there's a rear skirt add-on to accommodate the exhausts. Wish I could get something like that in Oz. Anyone know where it might be available?
Once again Hemmi, great job.
Greg

Thanks Greg
The Ultimate Quik Detailer gives an extra protection over the wax and gives the car a sort of wet look. I start by spraying it on and spreading it with a microfiber cloth, then wait 5-10 min and clean it off with another microfiber cloth.
The rear skirt is part of the MS body kit, it's not available in Australia, but it's available in Europe and New Zealand.
-
Hemmi - I'll give that Detailer a try in the weekend, sounds good.

Darn

Hemmi, You say the rear skirt is part of the MS body kit. Can you explain more? What does MS stand for?
Thanks,
Greg

No I don't use the waterless wash, there's enough water here to clean my car 24/7 for all my life
So I prefer the waterwash
-
Great looking car, looks like I'll have to break the habit of a lifetime and start cleaning my new (when it arrives) i30.
I noticed in the pictures there is not any sound proofing on the underside of the bonnet, is this usual for exports to Iceland?

I must admit I don't know, I didn't even know it was sound proofing :)
well at least there is no on mine, and it doesn't bother me, do other members here have it?
-
The diesels have it, certainly over here in the UK
-
The diesels have it, certainly over here in the UK
and here in Aus as well...
-
Is it possible it's only on the diesel because it's louder?
-
Yep it's possible Hemmi but I thought most cars had that feature now...
Can't remember if the petrol models over here have it or not?
-
Received this from Andrew re the products so they should be arriving soon Hemmi.
Unless they sent them by sea mail, I guess. What route would they take if they did, I wonder???
Which way would they get from Australia to Iceland? I hope they sent them by air.
No probs Dave, goods left yesterday on their way to Hemmi. Looks like he’s a bit lonesome, the only Icelander on the forum.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew
Thank you very much for that and also for your super quick response.
I've taken the liberty of posting your reply on the forum and I'm sure everyone the world over (& there are members from all over as per below!) would appreciate what you have done.
I've asked Hemmi to either contact you directly or else message me with his address, so either way we'll get that to you.
Will be in touch & thanks again.
Have a great week,
Dave
-
He was going to send me some apparel, He'll probably send it by air mail, we'll see
-
The 1.4 Comfort petrol I tested in the UK had the under bonnet lagging. Not sure whether it's actually 'sound proofing' (probably reduces/deadens the drumming noise) but every car I've had since my 1985 Mini Metro has had it (great car, I was told by the garage service manager to install a radio to cover up all the strange knocks, rattles and bangs)
-
Got my gifts today, it was more than I expected, I'm extremely happy :D
Meguiars cap, Meguiars leather key-ring, Meguiars wrist watch

Well done Hemmi!!
Just like to point out to our Aussie members Maguires is an American company, i use some of there products, but when Armerall make a compareable product i use Armerall they make brilliant product like most Aussie's would know and they are Australian so i support them and hope it helps other Aussies.

Excellent Hemmi, enjoy them.

I have taken my first tentative step across to the shiny(er) side by purchasing the NXT Quick Detail and have to say  I am impressed.
Basically I wanted something which was quick and easy for a "mini-wax" between my quarterly full blown cleans and Autoglym don't do such a thing, so I went for the Meguiars.
If all there products work as well and as EASILY then I may be starting to convert :D

WOW!
The car looks amazing Hemmi!
I am now a Meguiar's convert after seeing this thread.
What sort of special tape do you use to protect parts you don't want to polish?
What parts would you say shouldn't get polish on them?
Do you use any products on external plastics to make them clean & also shine? eg around door mirrors and also lights
Do you still own the car? If so does still look like these old pics?
-
