Does anyone know if FD wheel alignment specs are same as GD? I have a mate who is a non member who has an FD ( don't ask) and they set the wheel alignment using GD setting!

I'm not sure Dazz but I would have thought they'd be different.
If I was him, I'd ask them to show him the two models on their alignment machine. They can pull them up on the screen very easily.

And if they don't have a machine that can do that, they shouldn't be doing wheel alignments.

Cheers Trevor, He just got new tyres fitted about an hour away from where he lives, so isn't keen to drive back there in a hurry. If nobody else knows then he will have to ring them.  :undecided:

Im in the same boat, the car doesnt feel the same at turning after the wheel alignment, it doesnt have that same grip on the road feel.  I thought it was me, yet looking at the wheel alignment report, it was using GD settings.

Is there some where with the right info where I can get this car re-alignment again?  At the moment when I turn, the car seem to roll where previously it doesnt.

So far I have only pulled up FD specs.
As it happens Im about to do GD front align now.

I cant see that they can use the same program , GD & FD  track and wheel base are different .

Adjustments on GD front are limited. Usually just steer center and toe-in,

But you need to know if castor and camber have been affected by gutter hits etc. It is possible to correct this by component change and some moving of sub-frame.

Thanks Gazz,

I think @Blazorax and my mate both need to point out to the service centres their errors and get it sorted asap.

I did bring it up with them, and they said GD and PD are the same settings and I took their words for it, yet something still nagging at the back of my mind, just not the same feel at turning.  Feel more like my Subaru outback rather than the I30 SR feel

I think i'll make a booking with Bob Jane T Mart and have a chat with them about this the other mob who did the original wheel alignment doesn't seem to know the diff.  Currently my SR turn like a fat old lady, not a sexy cat walk model :P

In that case Thanh, I'd ring another reputable place and explain the story and ask them if they would mind checking. Or maybe even ring the dealer and see if they know?

My car steers so well with the new Michelins! I wouldn't be surprised if the Alignment was a bit out before. I've got a complimentary follow up wheel alignment in the next week or so. If I remember I'll ask my guys too!

Not that I've noticed! The other day when I had my "fang" I was doing some "substantial" speeds  :whistler: and she still sat nice and flat and predictable. Minimal understeer or oversteer to speak of.  :happydance:

My friend rang his tyre place and said they went and checked and all the same (all may not include the PD) . Reckoned that the guy that did them has been doing them for 14 years and really knows his stuff.  :undecided:

Or I could send some money to our new member that recently purchased I30 SR Prem to take his car out to a wheel alignment to get the measurements, then I can then replicate it on mine.

Anyone?? :P

Essentially, the well treated  i30 only has one easy front adjustment - toe in.
So, yes they probably could.
I just aligned my GD using a string line down each side of the car, that Solved a  drift to the left, steers straight and to an old expert, its  :goodjob2: :goodjob2: :goodjob: :goodjob:

They are different.
The second from last alignment I had done on my GD they used FD specs and it pulled left.
It has since been redone.

I can't believe any professional workshop would use another vehicles specs as near enough is good enough. WTF.

Is that what you're telling us, they did not have the GD specs in their system and subbed FD??

Seems to be a bit 'she'll be right mate' out there.

I was also a bit 'Vietnamed'  when I found my new Foxwell scanner did not have FD data for re-centering the steering after doing the usual $5 bush change.
But it did have a GD program and it worked perfectly.

PS; who is this new Doggie bloke?   :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:

@Doggie 1   :winker: been a while, happy new year mate.

They had both, saw it was a 2012 model which covers both, didn't know an FD from a GD and picked the wrong one.
