Just did the deal yesterday....

2014 (6/15 plate) I40 diesel auto, 12 months rego, floor mats, full tank of diesel $25k.

Cheaper than the quotes I had been getting for a new I30 diesel hatch, bigger in the boot, and feels to have more room in the back seat.

Only downside is the old school radio, and reverse sensors rather than camera (but it has reverse sensors front/rear) but I won't use the streaming service and remain sceptical of the longevity of LED screens in cars. Oh and the motoring journalists will be pleased to know it has air vents for the rear seats.

Drives like a bigger car, and seems to have better sound deadening (as one would expect for its normal price). Continues my love affair with the diesel engine, and introduces the 6 speed auto box. She won't win any races, but does enough to get around. Most of my time is spent at highway speeds anyway.

Congratulations on a great deal!  25K is an excellent price.

I rented a petrol i40 last year, and found it an excellent freeway cruiser.  Not as nimble as the i30/Cerato, but quieter and more stable.

It should give many years of trouble-free motoring.

Well done Beerman. Like you say the Auto i40 is no rocketship, but very nice car in ever other way. Sedan or Tourer?

It is the sedan in Titanium silver (which is the same as Hyper Silver in the I30's so the garage will still be colour coordinated)

Nice! The sedan is a very nice looking car (From some angles the tourer can look like a hearse!)

They were a bit light on for staff so let me take it for a drive by myself. This allowed me to take it home and show SWMBO. While she was having a look and confirmed the sticker under the bonnet that said it had a DPF and to use C3 oil.

Asked the question of the dealer who apparently asked their 'expert' in the service area, came back and assured me it didn't......

It will have a DPF fitted and required C3 oil. Go and tell their "expert" to stick it. (That's if it's not his tafe day )

I had a little laugh.....None of them opened the bonnet....the answer was there for all to see.

No top 10 Australian service people at Zupps Hyundai.....

From my reading it looks unlikely I'll be getting 135,000k from the brake pads.....But then again they could be the odd one who drive stop start and are heavy on the brake foot....

900k so far and I'm very happy. Really quiet on the concrete m1, it is obvious that extra effort has gone into keeping the cabin quiet. This allows the 6 speaker stereo to shine. Front and rear sensors have made getting used to the car that much easier...Massive boot and a nice drive.

A little underpowered from take off, but I suspect that will improve as the engine runs in.

5.6/100l is just a bonus  :D

Update:

2500k on the clock, Still runs like a dream. Filled up the other day 1300k from a tank.

This morning I hit some fog and all the windows and mirrors fogged up. Discovered the side mirrors are heated....

Oh and on the way home the fuel economy dropped to 5.1l/100. It won't stay there for long now I'm on days off but still impressive to see for a car of that size. I would think on a long interstate run you wouldn't have much difficulty hitting the mid 4s.

6 speaker stereo is a nice touch too, I have found myself listening to music again.

At the free service I had them raise the high beam a bit and the lights are much improved. (The dealer gave the wife and I vouchers for coffee and cake next door while it took place which was nice).

4,500ks on the clock now. The engine has loosened up quite nicely, it feels more powerful off the line.

5.3l/100 comes up more often than not now...

15000k service done yesterday (@15.5k oops  :-[)

In went the mobil 1 ESP 5w30 and original kia filter. Also replaced the front pads with Bendix CT pads. Hopefully will mean less dust on the rims.

Job done.

Last Sunday I had a quick trip to Canberra to attend a funeral.

Well it started off that it was going to be just my Sister and I, then Mum and Dad came on board and finally my brother managed to get the time off as well. So whatever car we took was going to be full.

The choice was between my Brothers Xr6 and the i40, so I basically said, sit in the back seats and make up your minds, and due to the rear seat supports on the Falcon pushing the backs of the passengers and the lack of a transmission hump, the i40 won.

So loaded up with 5 adults and luggage we left the Goldy at 4am for Canberra, arriving around 6pm local (daylight saving) time. Not a bad run down the Pacific Hwy. Upon arrival I threw my stuff in the room and proceeded to the bar (if I had have stopped I would have dropped), the only thing sweeter than the beer was the fuel economy 5.0/100. Trip home on the Tuesday was equally uneventful other than the breaking of the 5l mark. The homeward leg returned 4.9l/100. Not bad for a fully loaded medium size sedan. Cost per person was less than $30 return for fuel.

Only downside is that I have noticed a clicking noise coming from the drivers side front end especially on round a bouts. It is booked into the good people at Hyundai for investigation.

Oh and Dazz, the new brake pads have reduced brake dust considerably. Even after that long road trip the dust isn't on par with the rear originals (which don't throw much at all). So I'm happy.

The verdict is in. After returning my car with "Found RH CV nut loose carried out re-tensioned cv nut tested all ok" I was surprised to hear the clicking noise on the first corner I took out of the dealer (the only way out as it turns out.....are mechanics prone to industrial deafness??).

Went back, and took the manager out with me.

Result is it looks like the CV joint is stuffed. They have to find out where to get a new one (could be Korea) and get approval to fix it from Hyundai (over 1k apparently).
