I usually wont take part in any website I host, but Steve has made me feel welcome here, and If Im wrong delete the post, no hard feelings......
I have a Jeep 2012 Grand Cherokee limited SRT8, and it just happens to be what I picked up on return from the middle east, it was a good deal, and hauls my boat .....Well.
My first Hyundai experience was buying my 2nd ex wife a new one off the line when they went into business, I believe it was a 1985 Excel........terrible car......motor blew up under warranty. Oh the stories I could tell you lol.
I know Hyundai has come ALONG way since then, thus the great interest now.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone ever had one of those 85 models, and had any better luck than me. Wife or car LOL :)

I remember those '85 models first coming to Australia.
John Hughes who was related by marriage to Alan Bond did a deal with Bondy to bring them in.
Western Australia was the first State I believe to get them.
I still see a few around of that vintage but they weren't very good cars.
However, the rest is history, as they say.

Well one thing I can tell you, its the first motor I ever saw run, with a hole in the block, you could actually see the pistons and crank shaft running, from the other side.
To be fair, I had one of those wives that believed that oil was an optional thing but the oil leaked out through a gasket in the first 6 months, to be fair to the ex wife lol, but me and my brother decided we could replace the engine in the garage, as we had done with 77 cutlass, Buick's and what not, but the design of the engine compartment was either good or bad depending on your point of view.
The space was millimeters small, and we could never drop the replacement motor in with the cherry picker.
Now you might be asking why we would even be doing that with a new car under warranty.
They said it was void, because they oil level was not checked. You could say a new car, you should not have to check a new motor with only 1500 miles on it, you could also argue that if you see a pile of oil under the car you should check, but I digress LOL.
If I remember right the total drive off cost was $4999
And also now using the board, I understand why you like the spell checker.
Works better then the browser corrector.

Well no one ever reads below the general discussion layer in my experience, but if you find any funny Excel stories, send them down :)

My better half bought her 99 Excel from a work colleague in 2008 who purchased it new from the dealer, it'd had a new motor put in at 30k due to oval bores or something like that and we got it with 60k on the clock...just ticked over 100k now after 9 years of ownership and still going strong as is the little woman :)
Putting the Excel in for an auto gearbox service next week, full flush and filter change will lighten the pocket $480 :faint: half the price of the car :Pout:

Hope I've got your name right, earlier today I did a trip advisor review and told the motel owner sorry if I spelt his name Graeme the wrong way.. he said it is Greg!.. Anyway, I digress. Never owned an Excel amongst my 30+ previous cars, but I do have a 1979 model ex-wife and a 1996 model ex-wife. Strangely enough, the later model was the most troublesome and yet she had less miles on the clock!

Don't think so, I was very fussy about checking the oil level regularly with both models athough I could have been accused of riding the clutch a bit heavily which may have put pressure on the thrust bearing...
