Hi guys I own a 2008 2.0 Petrol i30.The car has 100, 000 km on it.

I recently noticed when i turn the ignition my car makes a brief whoosh sound. not too loud around the general intake snorkel area
I dont have a turbo or cold air induction and i havnt made any mods to the intake system.

Another issue i have when on idle the engine makes a light ticking sound.
does anyone have any ideas or similar experiences that they managed to solve any ideas would be appreciated.

My guesses are

clicking sound
Tappets or lifters
Injectors

Whoosh sound
PCV valve

really wanna fix this with out paying an arm n a legand find out the cause please help guys

Light ticking would most likely be the injectors operating normally. Not sure about the other sound.

My 2 do the same thing, I would think it is normal because they have been doing it their entire lives.

Is it just at startup for a split second?

My XD Elantra did the same thing occasionally (same Beta engine as the i30) ran like a dream and was no issue at all.

Oddly enough my diesel FD i30 did the same thing this week.

Maybe the Air Conditioning Compressor?

A slight ticking noise from the injectors is completely normal. I noticed it on my Elantra when I picked it up from the dealer with 26km on it. Again totally normal. Sold the car with 120,000km and ran perfectly
