Hyundai Launches New Generation i30

News media release 29th May 2012

Instantly recognisable as a Hyundai, the new generation i30 builds on the
multi-award winning success of the previous model which has sold over
101,000 units in Australia.

And roughly 2% of them are associated with this club.

Furthermore, at a conservative $20 000 per unit, that's 20 000 x 101 000 =  $2 020 000 000
Over 2 billion bucks!!!

Not bad, for a minor country like Oz

Pip
Yeah, the advertising was annoying but other than that I reckon he mentioned every reason I'm not likely to buy one.  :disapp:

Pip
Although he didn't mention that I like to keep my cars forever. That's probably the biggest reason I'll pass on this one other than I just love the one I've got already! :goodjob: :happydance:

So he reckons it's still not up there with the Japs.... :undecided:

I say bullsh*t..... :fum:

And while I was in Townsville my friend bought a brand new Mazda 3 and I didn't see what was so good about it, I reckon the front styling is mega ugly......
I also reckon there was less leg room in the back than my own old i30.

I think people get sucked in to buying a Mazda just like they do with Toyota....  :whistler:

Don't worry Rusty, If we can worry the Germans, gotta be doing something right. I predict there will be day when the i30 matches / exceeds the golf IN EVERY area.  :)

That reviewer's background is in four wheel drives.
As far as the review goes, I reckon he mentioned every reason why I am buying one.
I loved my FD, as you all know, but this car is a step forward in just about all areas. I don't necessarily see the torsion bar rear end as a negative for everyday driving and I am hoping that it sorts out the inner rear tyre wear of the fully independent set-up.
As Alan so comprehensively reviewed, the noise levels have been reduced in the new car which is a big factor for me. The old model was noisy on the highway. This one compares favourably and equally with the VW Golf.
And as for comparisons with the Mazda 3, my daughter recently bought a new Mazda 3 and whilst I can't deny its build quality as far as the way it has been put together is concerned, I actually find the styling to be dated and the interior hard plastics to be less appealing than those used in the new GD i30.
I don't think that Hyundai is playing catch up with the Japanese any more. I believe they have caught up and are zooming (thanks Mazda) ahead and the Japanese car manufacturers know it.
I think it is "socially accepted" for car reviewers to say that Hyundai has not caught up with the Japanese but I think they are the ones who haven't caught up.
The Japanese continue to sell their cars well in Australia due to the reputation they have built up over many decades, but point for point, $ for $, I choose to buy South Korean now.

Wow... how disappointing that there will not be a CW  and that we miss out on the better rear suspension and  engine options.... :fum:   I wonder if they would pass the ADR tests?

Makes me think that I might have to revise my thinking on updating Elle B.

Cant quite fathom why they would not offer the wagon... it has a lot going for it as it adds that flexibility that a hatch does not have, be it for couples or smaller families.

All that being the case... it means that there will be no CW anywhere outside of Europe including Asia....I wonder what the yanks are being offered.. :undecided:

Not Happy Jan  :blubber:

 Cheers

The Yanks get the new Elantra sedan (same as we do) and the new i30 hatch (called the Elantra GT over there)..

Yes it is a shame about the CW (the new one is a looker) and the old one was around 20% of all i30 sales in OZ I believe)

Tony, the problem is the CW isn't made in Korea, which is where our i30's are sourced. They reckon it's not feasible to bring them from Europe...... :undecided:

Will be interesting to see if that changes in the future......

As for the torsion beam suspension, this seems to be the norm in Korea now as most of Hyundai's other models also have it, which includes the Veloster.

Same thought went through my mind, (anything's possible if you want it enough), but servicing & warranty could be a problem.

As could the costs for ADR compliance which the manufacturer would normally cover.
