Title: My first scratch...
Post by: martybrisbania on June 27, 2012, 06:54:53
Hi guys,

Yesterday I picked up my i30 from the dealership (yes, it's a great car!), today I noticed a scratch on the dash. It's minuscule, I know, but it just doesn't feel right given that it's not my fault and the car is brand new. What do you reckon? Would this be a legitimate warranty issue or rather a matter of "get over it mate"? Don't wanna behave like a nitpicker! :-)

Cheers,
Marty

If you noticed it and felt the need to post it here, then it obviously bothers you (it would bother me too on a 24 hour old car) so give the 'ship a bell and say it's ruined your whole week.

You can be sure your eyes will forever be drawn to that spot, tho they may claim it wasn't like that when it had its PDI

Worth asking the question but don't let it spoil the ownership experience.
If your car has a scratch it just means it must have had an itch first  :D
I've been doing things to my daughters car today and my goodness, it must have had a lot of itches.
I'm surprised it doesn't have a rash.  Scratches all over it.  :disapp:

It is very frustrating I know in such a young vehicle, but there's a danger in becoming OCD about thing like this. It's a physical, mechanical device and nothing you do will keep it in pristine condition. The interior plastics are not very scratch friendly and it has been a bone of contention on this site. Foot scuffs etc do show and they are hard to remove. I have been using the minor marks to adjust my inflexibility to these things and learn acceptance. It helps me to be a happier person. However, I would also point out that there are some members who have the ability to detail their cars to showroom condition, their cars look immaculate but how do they stay happy, when the car inevitably gets dirty or scratched.

Hi Marty,

I would feel the same as you but Phil is right you do have to try and put it in perspective ...

I'm sure there would be some kind of polish or "stick" that would get rid of that or mask it.. but...

(a) you shouldn't have to fix it and..

(b) you would have to be careful to not make it worse...

could it be masked out with a bit of polish or whatever they use?

Try a small bit of g3 polish however you shouldnt have to, speak to the dealer first.

Looks great. Nice colour, especially in that lighting.

Update: dealer said it could impossibly be their fault but offered to replace it without charging labour. Would be approximately 60 dollar out of pocket. Still a lot of money for a scratch of not even one centimetre.

 - they denied responsibility
Up to you but I don't think I'd be paying them $60 for it.

It will be swapped from another vehicle of course & they hope no one notices. The $60 is the labour charge IMO.  :undecided:

Probably a factory scuff - no wonder they deny responsibility (wouldn't you?) but pity they didn't spot it during PDI, unless they did and decided it wasn't worth bothering about.

It is unfortunate that it is there but I'm sure you will love the car anyway and before long there will be others anyway.

Just enjoy the car in my opinion.

Lol, great idea! But what about the resale value? Might have dropped significantly with a scratch like this... ;)
