Police need to be using more of these:

http://www.lasertech.com/TruCAM-Laser-Speed-Gun.aspx

Apparently they are already in use in Queensland and Western Australia.....

Hey, I've had fines too and also have just paid them.
But realistically, if the police officer says he estimated your speed in excess of the speed limit and that is backed up by an approved speed detection device saying you were speeding, then you were probably speeding.
They can be a pain and I have more issue with where some of the civilian speed camera operators place the cameras than I do with a police officer working Laser or radar.
You'll genereally get more leeway with a person than a machine in my experience.
I have quite firm views on road safety and again IMO the govt isn't serious.
All of the revenue gleaned from fines should be put directly into road safety issues and driver training.
They aren't serious because no government has ever set up dedicated driver training centres to train our young people yet they waste so much money in other areas.
To my mind, all would-be drivers should be required to undergo advanced driver training and then, maybe the enforcement side of the issue (which is important) would be better tolerated and more credible.

I agree and that would make the job of the police easier too.  :agoodidea:
But without them, it is only that people seem to have some issue with the word of a police officer. I don't.
The Lasers in use over here now are LTI but without the camera.

I agree.....you can at least put your point across to a police officer, and you may even be lucky enough to get let off with a warning if the offence is something minor, try doing that with a machine... :goodjob:

As far as advanced driver training goes, our governments & safetycrats are against it as they believe drivers will use these new found skills and drive faster.....

That's interesting as there's a number of news articles floating around on the net saying the one with the camera is in use in WA.......

Then they don't believe in driver training.
Isn't it better to have drivers with higher skills than people with low skills?
It doesn't make much sense to me. Whether it be cars or motorbikes, equip the drivers with the skills and they will be better able to avoid being a statistic.
If they choose to driver fast as a result of the skills, then that is what enforcement is for.
Years ago, in WA we had the option of sending an offender to a police lecture rather than giving them a fine and it was a great thing.
Not only did it mean that the offender didn't lose any $$$ or demerit points, but it also educated them.
But our mindless governments decided to scrap that idea because (a) it cost money to run the lectures and (b) it denied them of the revenue.
How short-sighted is that?
We all pay at the end of the day with road trauma costs in so many ways.

We used the 20/20s but they didn't have cameras on them then.

You're preaching to the converted with me, Dave.... :goodjob:

The way I see it, our Safetycrats are creating the belief that if you drive at or below the speed limit, then you're somehow a safe driver...
There should be less hoo ha about speeding a whisker over the speed limit and more education to encourage drivers to drive to the conditions..... :)

Hmmm.
Reminds me of the awesome Sticky Date Pudding I had for desert in the restaurant at the motel in Glenn Innes a couple of nights ago.

- it is my day off, but I woke up early today and set off for a maintenance visit to a dealer, but I somehow failed to remember the precise address, so I had to rearrange an appointed time to 16.30 and had to spent a gap in the city, in various traffic jams

as we say: "It could have been funny if it weren't so sad"
they said the 5-th, trunk, door had been repainted, so those defects you had seen here are not covered by warranty, though I had never been in any car accident and got my car new from a dealer    :censored:

Do you have consumer protection in Russia?

In UK so long as any paint work is done by an "approved" source then my reading of the T&C is the warranty would still be valid

You need to establish when, by whom, why it was done etc

neither am I    I will sell my car in a state how it is now (at least one door repainting would cost a new owner 200USD)

Are you able to swear a statutory declaration in your country to swear on oath that it has never been damaged or repainted whilst in your possession?
And are you sure it has been repainted anyway or is that just what they are telling you?
Maybe you can get a contraru opinion from someone of standing.

I believe repair shops can date the time when the painting was done so in your case it will show as prior to when you bought.

+/-  I have been to Opel showroom today and reserved Opel Astra 1.6AT Cosmo (color - blue, again  :) ): clearance is perfect as well as various features available in my model, but I feel sad and exhausted with a sought that I'll have to sell my i30 regardless the recent problems with Hyundai dealer. From another hand I doubt I would miss it as much as I missed my Hyundai Getz (the best Hyundai's car so far), I almost broke into tears when I saw it disappearing in a distance in January 2010  :blubber:

The advantages of Astra Cosmo:
- rear parking sensors
- cruise-control
- higher clearance (160mm)
- lower engine metal plate protection
- two zone climate control
- an overall dimensions are bigger
- steering wheel with heating system
- electric parking brake
- 6AT

The disadvantages:
- 4 airbags
- 17" alloy wheels (I would prefer 16" instead)
- no USB port
- in my opinion, a big gap between bonnet and bumper (about 5mm I reckon)
- it is not i30  :)
