Several years ago I started a thread listing acronyms commonly used in motoring circles, media and brochures.

Since then - there have been many developments in the motoring World. Notably plug-in hybrids, electric cars, boys toys like adaptive cruise, lane control etc and the focus on emissions. Is it worth reviving the list and bringing it up to date with suggestions from current members?

Here is the now very old list :-

2WD – Two wheel drive
4WD – Four Wheeled Drive.
4x4 – Four wheel drive
ABC – Active Body Control.
ABS – Anti-lock braking system
A/C – Air Conditioning.
AC = Alternating Current
ACC – Adaptive chassis control
ALR – Automatic Locking Retractor (Seat belts)
AOL - Auto On Lights
ASC – Auto or adaptive stability control
ASC+T - Auto or adaptive stability control with traction control
Auto – Automatic transmission
AWD – All-Wheel –Drive.
AWW - Auto Windscreen Wipers
BCM - Body control module
BHP – Brake Horse Power.
BAS - Brake assist system
CAT – Catalytic converter
C/C – Cruise Control.
C/L – Central locking
CRD - Common Rail Diesel
CRDi - Common Rail Direct Injection
CRS – Child Restraint System,
CVT – Continuously variable transmission
DC = Direct Current
DDI – Diesel Direct Injection.
DHC – Drop head coupe
DME – Digital Motor Electronics.
DOHC – Double overhead camshaft
DSG – Direct shift gearbox
DSTC – Dynamic stability with traction control
DPF – Diesel particulate filter
EBA – Electronic Brake Assistance.
EBC – Electronic brake force control
EBM – Electronic brake management
EBD - Electronic Brake force Distribution.
ECC – Electronic Climate Control.
ECU – Electronic Control Unit
EDL – Electronic differential lock
EFI – Electronic Fuel Injection.
ENCAP – European New Car Assessment Programme.
EPS = Electric Power Steering
ESC – Electronic stability control
ESP – Electronic Stability Programme.
ESS – Emergency stop signal
EV – Electric vehicle
FDSH – Full dealer service history
FI - Fuel Injection
FFSR – Factory fitted sun roof
FSH – Full Service History
FWD = Front Wheel Drive
GDI = Gasoline Direct Injection
GT – Grand turismo or Grand tourer.
GPS – Global Positioning System.
GVW = Gross Vehicle Weight
HAC – Hill start assist control
HDI – High pressure direct injection
HEMI – Hemispherical combustion chamber
HEV – Hybrid electric vehicle
HID – High Intensity discharge (Xenon)
HP = Horse Power
Hybrid – A vehicle with both an engine and battery/electric motor driving the wheels
ICC - Intelligent cruise control
ICE = Internal Combustion Engine
ICE – In-car entertainment
IFS – Independent front suspension
IMMOB – Engine immobiliser
IOH = Instant on Headlights
IRS – Independent Rear Suspension.
ISOFIX –standard child seat restraint system.
ISS – Intelligent stop and go.
ISVM  Illuminated Sun Visor Mirror
KPH = Kilometres Per Hour
KPL - Kilometers Per Litre
KW = Kilowatt
l/100km = Litres Per One Hundred kilometres
LCD – Liquid crystal display
LDW – Lane departure warning
LED – Light Emitting Diodes.
LHD – Left hand drive
LPG = Liquified Petroleum Gas
LSD – Limited slip differential
LWB – Long wheelbase
MAF – Mass airflow sensor
MAN – Manual
MFI – Multipoint fuel injection
MOT – Ministry of Transport test
MPG – Miles per gallon
MPH – Miles per hour
MPV – Multi Purpose Vehicle
MY – Model year
NCRS – New Car Security System.
OBC – On Board Computer.
OCD – Occupant Detection System.
OEM – Original equipment manufacturer
OHC – Overhead camshaft
OHV – Overhead valves
ONO – Or near offer
PAB – Power assisted Brakes.
PAS- Power assisted Steering.
PASE – Passive start and entry
PCD – Pitch circle diameter
PDC – Parking Distance Control.
PDI - Pre delivery Inspection
PHEV - Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle
PI - Petrol Injection
PS = "Pferdestärke" German for Horse Power.
RCL – Remote central locking
RDS – Radio data system
RFT – Run flat tyre
RHD – Right hand drive
RHR – Rear head restraints
RPM – Revolutions per minute
RSC – Roll stability control
RV – Recreational vehicle
RWD – Rear wheel drive
RWW – Rear wash wipe
Sat Nav – Satellite Navigation.
SCS – Stability control system
SDM = Self Dimming Mirror
SOHC – Single overhead crankshaft
SRS – Safety restraint system or Supplementary restaint system
STC – Stability Traction Control system.
SUV – Sport Utility Vehicle.
SWB – Short wheel base
TDC – Top dead centre
TDI – Turbo diesel injection
TPMS – Tyre pressure monitoring system
UTE – Australian for pick up truck
VIN – Vehicle Identification numbers.
VTEC – Variable valve timing
VVTI – Variable valve timing as above
WAGON – Estate car or shooting brake
ZEV = Zero Emmission Vehicle
