Hi all,

A couple of months ago l wrote about a noise l have on my new i30 when starting.

After various comments it was decided that it was most probably the fuel pump.

This morning ....... after several days trying ........... l finally was able to record the startup and the noise, then straight to my local Hyundai dealer (Cranbourne).

As soon as the workshop manager heard it he stated it was the "Oil Pump" and it is a known problem on the new Elantra.

He is now contacting Hyundai to see what they are going to do about my i30.

Apparently it does not cause any damage.

To be continued

Good luck!

I have an I30 and have the same noise. Hyundai replaced my oil pump saying the same thing as they did to you. (It happens on Elantra's). It fixed the noise for about a month, but aloha it's now back.

My gut feeling is it is harmless but it certainly is annoying. Please tell me, if they let you know anything else.

I started a thread the other day (missed yours somehow) about how occasionally when I start my car it makes a noise kind of like a belt slipping or something. It's intermittent. Might not happen for a week, then a few times in a week. I'll be interested to see what they do for you, wasn't sure whether to say something to my service centre or not. The first few times we heard it we weren't actually sure we heard something. It only lasts a second or 2.
