Welcome,

That is low mileage for the year. There can't be much warranty left :undecided:

Sorry, but I can't help with the noise

I'd be asking the dealer to check it out under warranty.

Hi paulymodspur

Welcome to the forum.

 :whsaid:

Noises are very difficult to diagnose, even when you have the car, so diagnosing through here is not very easy... :D

Thanks all...out of interest what sort of coat would i be looking at if it was CV joint? ... as i assume warranty wouldn't cover this as counts as 'normal wear and tear'

Don't assume too quickly, I just had extensive engine repairs performed just days before the 5 year warranty expiry. Go to the dealer and don't mention or hint in any way about "normal wear and tear" It is a mechanical component, not a tyre, so it should be covered.

Is that the same issue as mine, which I found the issue when my 1.6 CRDI was just 3 weeks old ?

see here: https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=10210.msg115928#msg115928

Some of the owners here had similar problem and got universal joint replaced under warranty. However, some still have the noise after universal joint was replace.

btw, I agree with Phil.  :goodjob2:

thanks Alasama - a little confused as from the post in the link it appears that 'the sound is 'normal' friction and/or EPS whirr' - was this the case or was it the joint?

Some people went back to the dealers and let them check this issue, but not able to make sure the root cause. In that case, some dealers replaced the universal joint or the steering structure. But some dealers just said they need time to investigate. So far I still don't know exact answer to this issue, and I still have that sound. Suggest you take the car back to the dealer and see what their answer is.

Personally I think EPS works fine and believe it's the sound of friction somewhere, but it's not normal.
