Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know off hand the recommended service interval for the Air Con system on a second generation i30?

I have a 62 plate and the air con is completely empty already

TIA

As far as servicing goes, pressure levels might be checked periodically if the effectiveness seems poor, if you have no gas in the system then it must have a leak and will require fixing before re-gassing.

As Craig said there are no service on A/C system. Only requires attention if you notice a drop in performance.

You can "maintain" the system by simply using it for 5min a week every week, this keeps everything lubed and circulating, as recommended by Hyundai.

Thanks for the replies guys

Air con stopped working a few months ago. Dealer didn't have the equipment to test for a leak (!) so they had to take it to another garage who couldn't find a leak.

They now want to charge me for re-gassing. I don't think 2.5 years is long enough for the system to need a complete re-gas to be honest.

I don't see how the aircon would be without gas if it didn't have a leak ( unless someone purposely evacuated the system via the charge valve :undecided: )

The system would require being put under vacuum for 20 minutes and checking gauges for evidence of a leak, if the gauge remains still for that period then it's safe to re-gas.

They did the pressure test and didn't see a problem.

The dealer dropped the price by 50%, but I'm still not happy.

Still doesn't make sense why it stopped working a couple of months ago, if there is no gas/refrigerant in the system it had to have either leaked or someone has evacuated the refrigerant from the system

If the system is leak free then I'd just take the car into an auto aircon specialist and have it re-gassed - or whoever is cheapest with the dealer 50% off.

A better deal.

Is you car still under warranty? refrigerant isn't classed as a consumable so I would have thought that a 2012 vehicle would be covered by warranty because if the refrigerant is gone then there is a fault somewhere.

Didn't they put in that UV stuff when they re-gassed the system..? Then you can drive for 2 weeks and then they should be able to find the leak with a UV light...
