Hi i30 peeps - hope someone out there can help ? You know that noise when you are in the wrong gear, like going uphill in 4th that sounds like a rattle ? I have that noise on a fairly regular basis and am very careful to make sure that the appropriate gear is suitable for the respective incline. Any ideas ? I had a brand new clutch fitted on the 16th of February this year so what else could it be and could it be remedied by something simple ?

Sounds to me it's what we call "ignition knocking" I have no idea what the English word for it is. 

There's several sensors monitoring the ignition timing, could be something wrong there, but takes an errorcode readout to ind out.

Could you not merely be upshifting too early so it's so low rpm that the engine starts juddering?

We call it pinging. Not sure that is the sort of noise they mean though.

The Queen's English term is pinking. 

Pinging is the slang word for it. Also called knocking by some of the proletariat
