Our GT (I30) does not have a lever to lift for the gas cap door. All you do is just push on the door and it opens. I was concerned about possible theft from the tank, or something being put in, but it will not open if the doors are all locked.Maybe changed because of all the problems that are mentioned here??Don
The door sticking is only caused by the cap tether getting caught in an "awkward" position.

I'm not convinced this is the only cause, in fact I think the dress of the tether only contributes to the real problem which appears to be insufficient spring strength and/or binding hinge. That's my observation anyway. I can put the tether in any position but the door remains closed but released such that a fingernail will open it. I've not bothered to look too hard for a fix.
Maybe if you can remind us what you have and give us some of its characteristics, we may be able to help you form an opinion as to what you should call it?
